Anyone know what a Thetford fridge fault 18 on the display means? It flashes on very briefly then the display looks like it always does, green light & A for automatic.
We made ice on EHU at home & kept cold on 12v driving over. But the fridge got warm on site EHU. The freezer compartment light is on. It feels tepid above the upper vent outside.
Is our issue likely to be 240v element? Or Heater element? Or Thermostat? (Maybe those are all the same thing!) Or tripped circuit board? Or maybe Fault 18 is what Autosleeper Handbook Troubleshooting section calls a 'faulty appliance'.
Many thanks for any links: the handbook is not helpful.
Whe we had trouble with our Thetford fridge, I removed the vents outside and looked at the wiring. Disconnected both mains and 12volt supplies (white connector blocks) and left it for a while. You could try this to let the system reset itself. This way I managed to get it to run on gas.
Can not remember what our error code was, but in the end had t get the 240 volt element replaced.
Update. We plugged in back at home & have ice. No idea why the fridge stopped being cold at the site as it’s one we go to every year at this time of year & we’ve never had the problem before.
Sounds very similar to our problems last year. Fridge worked fine at home on test, but get on site and it would fail after an hour or so and we would have to run it on gas.
Mains heater replaced at last service and seems ok at present (fanous last words)
The fault code list for Thetford fridges is at FAQ Fault codes. It’s not easy to find! The only mention of code 18 says:
“My fridge shows fault #18 - When a fridge is first switched on the entire display will light up. This should only last for a few seconds.”
Having had fridge trouble, I bought a cheap plug in voltmeter; like Saxo says, I’d be inclined to suspect low voltage: ours tripped out at around 210v in France quite regularly, then came back on once the aggregate demand on-site diminished. This was fault #10, it turned out.
Thanks for that. The site was almost empty but management put everyone on adjacent pitches, I’d guess we were served off a spur on the electric so capacity might be the reason if everyone else had their heating on at 22 deg.
Didn’t see a fault #10: the display was just as if the electric was functioning fine.
Next time (if there is one!) we’ll turn on the gas for the first time. It gets its Hab Service in the spring.
