Hello wise carwvanners. I have a Bailey pageant & suddenly nothing works on EHU despite the battery charging when plugged in (12v things all works fine). Fuses all good, nothing is tripping. Tried brand new cable & connector & different power point so they’re not at fault. RCD replaced but will not reset/test. Mains power sockets/lights/water heater don’t work.

Not a power cut, either in the local area or on the site?

Hello again. Edit to previous post as turns out the mains supply had an intermittent fault so not the vans fault. However, the lights which run off mains only are tripping the breaker inside the van (switches off & bulbs out). Any hints for me to narrow it down/bypass the have plenty other lights! Thank you ☺️

Assuming that you have 230v available have you checked that the battery charger is actually working?
Do you have a multimeter available? Use a multimeter to check the battery voltage with the hook up lead disconnected and check again with the lead connected and the charger switched on, if the voltage stays the same then the charger is not working after all.
I would switch off all the mains circuits and unplug all the appliances such as kettles etc and then try to reset the RCD. If the RCD resets and tests properly switch on the circuits individually to see where the problems lie. If all the circuits switch on properly try plugging in the appliances one at a time until the trips are tripped. The problem is often the water heater or fridge element, if those are ok it's usually the kettle.

Sorry this is a bit long winded but it's harder to put it into words than it is to do it.

Let us know how you get on.
Rob

Thank you so much. I have mains power and the battery has now recharged/is charging so it’s not that. Nothing plugged in. Fridge is totally off, as is water heater (they do not have plugs so not sure how I can disconnect them other than turning them off?). RCD resets fine. It’s the trip switch for “charging unit, water heater & lights” that trips. The second switch for sockets, etc and the main RCD are both good.   I have no mobile mechanics near me and am a serious distance from any workshop so hoping I can figure this out. I’m happy changing elements…. Just want to be certain I’ve located the problem before I begin ordering parts…..

It could be the MCB itself that's faulty. There should be two MCB's side by side so check the resistance on both of the switches which should feel the same. If one is much weaker than the other then it will be the weaker one of the two that keeps tripping after a specific period after being switched on.
It's not very often that a mini circuit breaker malfunctions but like everything else it has a life span and eventually wears out after time.

Oh? Didn’t even consider the fact the MCB may be faulty!!! And it has been on for quite some time. Thanks for the help. Kinda hoping it’s that as that’ll be an “easier” fix in the sense I don’t have to decipher an invisible problem!

F&S MCBs are frequently faulty it has been reported many times on various forums.

I had the same problem about 4 years ago whilst on site whereby the MCB switch kept tripping out after being switched on for about 10 minutes. The hot water tank, 3 pin sockets and mains lights were on the same circuit so all 3 were inactive when it tripped. I tested by using the method that I stated in my previous post and the faulty one was definitely weaker. Luckily there was a caravan accessory shop on site so I removed the defective one and took it to the shop for an equivalent MCB switch replacement of the same rating and fitted it in myself. I've never encountered any issues with mains the electrical circuit since replacing the MCB.

I can now only deduce a loose connection as I swapped the MCB’s over, all good. Swapped them back and now everything is working and nothing is tripping??!! Thank you for suggesting the MCB may be faulty as it’d saved me hours of headaches!
