Our Vent for the microwave blows cold air into the caravan all year round.
In winter it’s ridiculous.
Has anyone tried a DIY baffle to reduce the howling gale?
I’m aware of the need to ventilate, but since the micro is never on for more than a few minutes, it’s an overkill.
Shouldn’t be difficult to make something from a sheet of plastic like a cut out from a gallon container. Has anyone tried it?
I’ve seen covers on eBay etc but they are not cheap.
Would need some holes drilled, but shouldn’t be a big job.
I would try sticking a peice of clear flat plastic (like from packaging), over the vent but only stuck on at the top edge like a hinge. I'd use clear Gorilla tate to do it. The microwave fan will still be able to blow it open and vent steam, but draughts in the opposit direction will tend to blow it shut. And being a fellow Scot,... it's cheap .

We don't have an external vent in our van, just an internal one and we don't have any condensation of cooking smells. Mind you we hardly ever use it as a microwave, it tends to be used as a bread bin.

What kind of microwave vent have you got that allows in such gales!
I've got a 'mushroom' type (same as my shower vent) through the roof, and never noticed any drafts getting in. Even unclothed and soaking wet in the shower, never felt a significant draft from the vent!
As others have said, our microwave cupboard vents sideways into the kitchen area. But we get a draft from our fridge vents, so we put the covers on during the colder months.

It’s like a fridge vent. Straight to the side of the van. Totally unnecessary in my opinion.
Fixed now.
Just looked at a few van photos, see what you mean. OTT or what!
As to Fiona W's comment about drafts from fridge vents, can't say I've suffered those either, but then occurred to me, usually got an awning up, and fridge vents inside that, so not exposed to direct wind.
