We have an Electrolux RM400 three-way fridge in our late 90's VW camper (a Bilbo Celeste) which has been working fine. But on a trip last week we switched it to 12v mode whilst driving along and the red light in the switch started flashing slowly and it didn't get cold. It worked fine that evening on 240v hook-up.
The green light in the fridge switch on the Bilbo's control panel also flashed at same rate.
Checked the fuses and tried using both the leisure battery and main battery to power it whilst engine was on (and both fully charged), but same problem.
Our first 1992 model caravan had this model fridge with exactly the same lights which ours had an automatic igniter button too powered by the leisure battery. I can't answer as to why these lights are flashing but the fridge won't get cold just on a 12 volt supply only (when in transit) as the fridge has to be pre-cooled first either by gas or mains electric. Once that has been done then the 12 volt supply just maintains the current temperature inside the fridge.
Thanks very much for replying. I thought it might be something to do with that too. But even when chilled overnight on hookup the 12v fridge light kept flashing when driving along the next day.
Both the red rocker switch (12 volt) and green rocker switch (240 volt mains) used to remain illuminated (no flashing) when either were in use so don't have a clue as to what may be causing this. The only switch that used to flash was the automatic igniter for gas (which was located at the opposite end of the panel) but then extinguished once the burner was lit. I think the best solution would be to get a technician to try and identify the fault.
