Hi
We have cleaned everything I think and can only get gas to stay lit if you hold the gas button in as you would when you light the pilot light. Let go and it goes out. Very annoying lol
You don't say whether its a fire, a fridge or a hob but it sounds like the little safety device called a 'flame out' sensor or more properly a thermocouple has been moved away from it's position whereby the pilot light flame plays on it to get it hot. When hot it allows gas ton flow.
Of course if you are not sabsoluetly shure what you are doing get a Gas Safe engineer to fix it.

oops. In my haste you're right I never said but it is our fridge. The boss says it will only fit in one place but we will take another look after work. Thanks for the reply
how long ago was it last running correctly? are you sure its not air locked? or that someone has turned the gas tap to the fridge off? how long are you holding in the button for? some times it needs around a minute of holding it in to stay lit. failing that it would benefit from a service so get someone who knows what they are doing i.e has a gas safety certificate.
Had a very similar issue with my gas fire last year.
Decided to clean it, wouldn't stay lit afterwards.
Turned out I made two mistakes.
1...Used brush and cloth to clean gas nozzles. ( should have used hoover to suck all dust away as apposed to spreading it.
Secondly Knocked the thermo couple a fraction out of line.
Got gas engineer to sort it👌👌👌👍.
No probs since....Now just a quick hoover by me frequently.
Might not be your problem, worth a shot tho...Hoover out the flame area.
