They say things happen in 3's well it certainly seems to be bearing out.
Day we left for this trip leisure battery cashed in its chips at 4 years of age but I suppose the motor mover took its toll. We've had water issues with the external pumps in the past and are on our 3rd Whale pump now. The second one failed today - I put it down to poor workmanship on the part of Whale the replacement we got for the original which was Truma and had rigid pipes which the boss didn't like! 1st one lasted a couple of years, this last one lasted since mid July before giving up the ghost today and constantly pumping. Got a 3rd from a dealer at Newmarket and its the same. The dealer said, "I think its your pressure switch and you can't get them!"
Obviously we can make do and mend until we get home because it pumps water CONTINUOUSLY AND NOISILY - we'll just switch it off at the control panel when not in use.
Question is about this pressure switch which is evidently unobtainable. I can't believe there isn't an alternative available?
Does anyone have experience of this and know the cure?
All advice greatly appreciated.
Yours grumpily and becoming progressively poorer!!!
The pressure switch normally works in conjunction with an expansion tube which is a tube with a plunger in it which compresses a spring.
When the plunger reaches the end of the tube the pump switches off and the spring pushes the plunger to keep the water flowing.
When the plunger reaches the other end the pump switches back on to repeat the cycle.
That allows you to turn the tap on and have a slow flow of water. Without teh expansion tube the pump is either on full pelt or off. The continuous stop start tends to destroy the pump in no time.
You should be able to get a pressure switch and expansion tube at most caravan accessory shops of ebay etc.
The pressure switch is adjustable so you can have a reasonable flow rate.
Getting spares & accessories for caravans got a whole lot harder earlier this year when the Caravan & Motoring shop at Norton closed for good. They were brilliant, fair priced and very knowlegable.
We have a Lunar so no-one wants to know it. Catterick Caravans is part of a huge franchise and tend to be expensive. Ropers also at Catterick have workshops and a shop but they're Bailey agents from memory.
Teesside Caravans went bust last year.
Getting bits is now quite a challenge. I've booked it in to MT Caravans at Newton Aycliffe when we get home. Mark will see us right.
Such a shame so many caravan dealers and shops going bust.
Pleased to report problem now solved. Steve the Perepetetic caravan technician visited us at Bearsed Caravan and Motorhome Club site yesterday and swiftly diagnosed and cured the problem with a replacement pressure switch he had obtained for another job which happened not to be the pressure switch. Stroke of luck or what?
SWMBO paid him in that old fashioned brown folding stuff known as
'His Majesty's drinking vouchers'. He was chuffed but not quite so when he tried to use them to pay for his pizza at the pizza van that visits the site every Friday evening. They take card or exact cash only!
Alls well that ends well. Now looking forward to Paws in the Park next weekend. Meanwhile a few days of discover Kent awaits.
Any recommendations for Dog Friendly eateries offering good food will be gratefully received.
