hi all advice please lifted up my bed to get a chair from the underneath but one of the struts will not come down took it off will i need to get a new one or is there a fix thanks for any info 2 old codgers ian&fay
I presume they are fitted the correct way up to keep the shaft lubricated. When in open position the cylinder should be at the top and the shaft at the bottom
There are threads about gas struts if you search: they’re available online, how to ensure you get the correct replacement (serial number), seems easy to do yourself, not expensive.
I can’t be more specific as I wasn’t the person with the experience & expertise who gave the advice & recommended a particular website or supplier.
They do dry out and over time the piston can go out of alignment and jam. I'd also check the holding bolts are still tight. We have an ottoman bed with four gas struts and all four work loose. I noticed the other week when I opened it and it wouldn't close, I could see one of the bolts was very loose.
You can dismantle and lubricate, but for the cost I'd replace them if they are failing.
