Hello.
I'm based in Staffordshire & looking for new tyres for our caravan.
The place I've always used, Harris Tyres Ltd, has sadly now closed down.
I must have called two dozen places now, including caravan dealerships, to no avail. It would appear the Tyron bands are the sticking point because they require a piece of equipment to compress the tyre to fit the bands.
Can anyone recommend anywhere within 100 miles that could fit my new tyres (with Tyron bands...) ?
My question would be to dealerships, what do you do when a customer buying a new or used van wants them fitted. Who do you get to do it.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I had exactly the same issue when I wanted to replace my caravan tyres! I bought my 2016 van at just over 18 months old with the Tyrons already fitted from new. Took about 3 years before I became aware of the issues when tyres needed replacing!
It get's depressing when tyre dealer after dealer just refuses to touch them, I'm in NW London/Hertfordshire, and there are hundreds of tyre dealers, both big national chains, and independents. I tried all I could find! As close as I got was theoretically with some Kwik Fit mobile services who charge £10/wheel extra to deal with them, BUT turned out no mobile services covering my home or the caravan storage yard, so no better off! Kwik Fit stores don't seem to do Tyrons, only the mobile service!
Removed them myself in the end, following YouTube guidance, bit of a struggle to break the tyre bead without the dedicated machine, but technically not difficult. After removing them, just used the local tyre fitters who offered the tyres I wanted at the best price. When I took the wheels in, first words (not even a Hello!) they uttered when they spotted they were caravan wheels was "Not got Tyrons, have they?"!
I DID NOT refit my Tyrons with the new tyres, I was not going through that fiasco ever again! I fitted a TyrePal Tyre Pressure Monitoring System instead. Feel more confident with that, as should give early warning that something is amiss with a tyre rather than waiting for catastrophic failure and Tyron band trying to keep the wrecked carcass on the rim!
Tyron bands do nothing to prevent catastrophic failure, nor warn of impending failure, ONLY stopping the wrecked tyre coming off the rim. Having friends who had their caravan written off by insurers because of the extensive damage done by a blowout, with the tyre staying on the rim (even with no Tyron band!), I'd much rather have the early warnings from a TPMS giving me a chance to pull over and stop, preventing the tyre reaching blowout situation.
It was some years ago but Etyres came out to my house and fitted tyres with my Tyron Bands on. You do have tp gidvuss it with them in advance and I think there was an extra charge.
My mobile caravan fixer and service man gave me the name of a tyre person who I believe has a business in Shenstone, near Lichfield. He replaced my tyres, which have Tyron bands, on my driveway, at a very reasonable price.
Just found his number on Google. Search "Trade Tyres". His name is Jamie, and I think he has a couple of mobile fitters available.
Hi all.
Thank you to those who replied.
Sorry for the delay, but thought I’d give you an update…
EddieC, Trade Tyres, Shenstone are actually my go-to tyre depot. A brilliant bunch of guys.
Unfortunately it was Thursday afternoon when I discovered my tyres were 8 yrs old & they couldn’t get the required size in time for our holiday departure on Friday. Schoolboy error, not to be repeated. Tyres were changed in 2020 but dated 2018 !! As said, schoolboy error I’ll not make again.
Anyway, all is good, new tyres fitted today. (With Tyron bands!!).
After thoroughly inspecting the tyres I was satisfied as I could be that they were still in perfect condition. So I set about finding a place down here in Cornwall that could change them. The journey down was uneventful. I sat at 56mph all the way & checked them several times on the way down. They barely even got warm.
I’d like to give a big shout to Geoffrey Harris Tyres of Liskard who were brilliant. They specialise in commercial tyres for vans etc, so knew exactly what they were doing; even checking the van weight etc, The Tyron bands were no issue for them & they were done in a couple of hours. I had to drop the wheels off with them so had to take a trolley jack & torque wrench. The brilliant team at Looe club site sorted me some blocks to pop under the van with the spare on the other side while the wheels were off.
But we’re sorted now, so to anyone struggling to find a Tyron capable fitter, maybe look up Geoffrey Harris in Liskard whilst you’re down this way.
i had mine replaced at my usual local tyre dealer in Barnsley south yorkshire (Malcolms tyres), tyre fitters have a gadget on their fitting machines that will compress the tyre enough to fit the bands, dont know why theres a problem, unless they have never had the experience of doing them, so if they refuse ,they're never going to get the experience

It really isn't difficult, I removed mine without any special tools, just the long Allen key that comes with the user instructions, you just need to force the sidewall out of the way to gain access to the fastener - it ain't rocket science! There is a bespoke tool to aid fitment.
I suspect most places aren't interested because of the extra time it takes to remove and refit after the new tyres are on the rim.
I use Trade Tyres near Lichfield - they also do mobile fitting - not sure about the Tyrons as all caravan wheels have safety ledges which does the same thing, ie stops the tyre dropping into the well
