Get the twin electrics when the towbar is fitted.  Otherwise you cannot charge the van battery or run the fridge when towing, maybe other things too, I'm no expert.

Hiya,

Single electrics (black socket normally) work the road lights on the caravan, trailer or lighting board (if you are carrying bikes).

The second socket (white or grey) and a split charge relay take a live feed into the caravan, enabling you to power the van and also charge the fridge/battery etc.

If you have a modern car (with certain types of wiring systems or a warning mechanism when a bulb goes) then you may need an electric system which incorporates by-pass relays - more expensive but necessary.

If you go for single electrics you can easily 'upgrade' to double at a later date. Still confused? Ring one of the towbar suppliers like Towsure/Witter etc. and ask them to talk you through it all!

Twin electrics every time, it would be a sin not to have the fridge working in the summer months, A point to always remember is when your car engine is turned off the 12 volts supply from you car to the fridge is also turned off, this is a safety device to stop your car battery being run down and then you would not be able to start your car.

I would always go for the double when you have a towbar fitted, my car only has a single socket (fitted by a previous owner) and I have found it is a lot more expensive to add the second socket at a later date than it would be to pay the extra and have it all done at the same time.

I need the second socket so that the leisure battery charges en route, otherwise after a weekend away without EHU there may not be enough juice left in the battery to run the motor mover so I can get the van back in the drive.

It will be handy having the fridge keeping cold as well.
