I've recently bought a used campervan with towbar and am going to collect a caravan with it soon. I don't want to make the journey and discover that the towbar electrics don't work for the indicators etc. Is there a quick check I can make to see if all well - the equivalent of sticking a screwdriver in the socket to see if it lights up?
if you have an old light bulb & holder off a car you could use it as a test bulb by inserting one wire into the earth pin and the other in each terminal when its turned on, if you get a light then its working.
I think the only thing you might need to watch is the fact that if this is a new caravan you're about to tow, then there might be a minor mis-match if the towcar electrics are 'old', if you know what I mean.
I'm pretty sure that there was a slight change in the allocation of pins a few years ago. Someone more knowledgeable might be of more help!!
