Hi there,

A hook-up will not charge it alone no, you need to have a battery charger in the system. We also do not have an on-board battery charger in our 'van, so i purchased a leisure battery charger and now keep it in the caravan next to the battery (under the seating area), when the battery runs low we simply attach the crocodile clips and switch it on and by the next morning it is fully charged again.

You do need to have a ventilation hole near to the battery to let out any fumes that are given off when charging, but that is the only point to bare in mind. It's a lot easier than lugging the battery to and from the house all the time.

Leisure battery chargers are available from £15 onwards depending on the quality and brand and are readily available from Ebay, Halfords, or any caravan accessory store.

all the best.

If you use a CAR TYPE battery charger form the EHU, these charge at a higher voltage than purpose-designed caravan chargers.   The car-type are likely to cause "gassing" which is flammable.   So, if the battery is in the caravan, there is a serious risk of fire.  For this reason, ensure that any charger you buy for this purpose is specifically designed for onboard caravan use.

Happy caravanning, The 2 Tops.
