Hi all

Anybody know of any good internet sites to go on for buying heaters for camper vans.

Or which ones to buy.

I cant seem to find anything someone said Halogen ones are good.

I didn't get to go to the show at York I bet they had lots to offer.

Any advice would be welcome

Halogens are ok,

2 things to remember..

make sure the wattage is not too high as it could trip the electric supply on a campsite,

also halogens give off a lot of light, and this can be a nuisance

oh and thirdly you willobviosly need a hook up, so wild camping etc will be  out of the question.

other option is a fan heater, again wath the wattage, and also remember they can be noisy.

I would prefer an oil filled radiator, quiet and no light or noise, but can be heavy.

The other option is a convector heater, probably least of the negative points in my opinion but once again wath the wattage,

We used a small oil filled rad too but and also left it in the front between the seats ticking over all the time. They are quite heavy, though, so I think we'll try a convector this year for the caravan to keep the weight down a bit. Personally I'm not keen on halogen, you seem to have to be quite close to them before you feel much benefit and I don't like the bright light.

Halogen are great for sitting around with a glass or two in the awning but convector best inside. Fan are good for a quick warm up if van is cold. I used to have a little oil filled one in my motorhome but it was blooming heavy and I dropped it a couple of times, after which it stopped working (wonder why?)

Rather than internet, where you probably wouldn't save much and it would be offest by postage, shop locally. Supermarkets, DIY stores etc all have lots of heaters reasonably priced.

I spotted a 400/800w halogen in Poundstretcher the other week for half what I paid for the same model in our caravan dealers last year.

Finally, get one with variable settings so that you can still use it on low if on a site with limited power - there are still some about that only have 6 amp EHUs and specify no heaters to be used.
