Hi

Just been away this weekend and found ive a problem with the heater think the model is  s3002

The fire works ok on electric but when I tried to light the gas it failed.. I decided to remove the front to see if the piezo had come detached, then found the thermo coupling was loose and also int he bottom are 2 brackets and a screw

does anyone have any diagrams or photos that may help me to put things back together?????

thanks

Russ

The thermocouple does not come inside the van, I'm thinking you mean the copper cigar shaped temperature sensor.

This thing

Should be clear from the picture, (now the link works!), the bracket is reversible so on the top edge you can see a blank end that fits in a slot in the base plate, the screw then goes through the hole. If the cigar comes loose in the holder then bend the front of the tags inward with side cutter type pliers.

Reason for coming loose can be vibration caused by out of balance wheels on the van.

Hey gary

Yes thats exactly what im on about .. glad someone does haha

There is a groove, but like you say the bracket will need bending to tighten it up

Just seemed a strange place to fit it.

Thought this might be the problem why it was not lighting, but guessing this been fastened down wont make much difference, so ill have to dig deeper

Thanks for that Gary

Russ

Do you have the Truma S3002 or S3002P  Heater? The P model has a manual piezo ignitor (push Button) whereas the S3002 has auto ignitor powered by battery.

Your problem could be the piezo generator not working do you see a spark in the viewing window when you press the button? You should allow a few minutes for the gas to circulate before trying to light the fire as you need gas in chanber to light the pilot best to push and hold the gas regulator to make sure the gas is there. If you are getting a spark make sure you are holding down the gas relulator for a few second to allow the light the pilot. If pilot is lit continue to press regulator down otherwise the pilot will go out. If no spark it could be there is dirt on the electrode contacts and they require cleaning.

I think it wants clarifying what Mike says about getting the gas through, yes it's a reasonable idea to hold the control down for a while to ensure gas is at the burner, it's not a good idea to try lighting it straight away after holding down for a few minutes!

After holding the control knob down to purge any air in the system, turn off the control knob and wait for at least a minute for any excess gas to escape. Now you can try lighting it for about 10 seconds without stopping, then let go and wait 20 seconds for gas to clear and try again by all means, however if it does not light straight away then the fires telling you it needs looking at and probably a full service.

Lighting them full of gas can blow them apart, I've just changed a heat exchange with twenty odd rivets blown out!!!

Hi Russ , it does sound like it's time to get a dealer to check your gas heater / system over . Better safe than sorry .

I have a Trumatic S3002P Model. (Manual Piezo Igniter)
I have just bought the caravan. I lighted the heater for the first time no problem. After that I could not get the pilot to ignite. I am getting a spark at the electrode. (does it need to be a big fat spark?) I removed the front of the heater and the eye view glass and lighted the heater pilot no problem with a lighted taper. The heater ran fine. Shut down tried using the piezo igniter again. Get a blue spark but pilot refuses to light.
Any information would be most helpful. Thank you for reading this post.
Ray Butler.
