Hi - i need to replace the pole sets for my gelert rocky2 (great little tent for me) the poles are 7.9mm fibreglass.
Q; If I use 8.5mm poles to replace,
- Do they offer more durability
- Is flexibility likely to be an issue
(n.b. - the ones I am looking at will have less joins which may help flexibility)
thanks

Not an easy question to give a definitive answer on, but the tendency is, the larger the diameter of pole, the larger the arc in use it requires! That 'may' mean on a tent designed for a small (more flexible) pole, the larger diameter pole may be strained more on the tighter arc (so possibly will the tent flysheet/anchor points) which may not work in your favour with durability.
The difference on diameter is not a lot, and the (unknown) flexibility of both poles has a bearing, so it may work OK, but unlikely to give you better durability with any certainty.
