Hello, and I'd like some advice please.

My daughter and her friends are away camping in mid Wales in my Coleman Mosedale 5 Pro.

I've always used a piece of tarpaulin under, but she took it away without it, so she bought online a Mosedale 5 pro footprint from Millets, next day delivery and it came the afternoon before she needed it.

I asked how it was going after the first morning, and she mentioned how small the footprint is. Way too small for the job.

The tent is 3350mm x 5100mm, but the footprint is only 3700mm x 3250mm.

There is nowhere I could find online that gives the footprint size, and on the label she messaged me, which came with it, is the only place I've seen it.

does this sound right? We were expecting it to be the same size as the tent.

Thank you .

The correct footprint will typically be up to 100mm smaller on ALL sides than the tent groundsheet, and NOT extend into the porch area (which has no groundsheet). They NEVER match the tent size.

Footprints are intentionally smaller than the sew in groundsheet so that water does not run off walls and under between footprint and groundsheet, this helps keep groundsheet dry which is part of the footprints function. They are intended as protection for the SIG, so rarely extend into areas like porches that don't have a SIG or optional attachable groundsheet.

Thank you at Monty15 that does explain it.

I can fully understand the 100mm gap around the edges, I would have worked that out I think, and I get your explanation but still can't grasp why it doesn't cover the full overall size, i.e. not the porch.

If the size was showing anywhere before purchase, I wouldn't have advised her to buy it, but to get a tarpaulin from Screwfix.

Thanks again.

My daughter borrowed a Coleman Mosedale 5 last year and it was larger than the Coleman Mosedale 5 they have for sale this year, she was going to buy one until she realised there wasn't the front section in this year's version. What year is your tent?

why would you want to put a footprint down on an area that doesnt have a groundsheet? the whole point of footprints is to keep the underside of groundsheets clean. so it only ever has to cover the bedroom area and the living area in your case

Thanks for replies,

Virsec, It was bought last spring, it's a 5 Pro.

marg6, All I was expecting to cover is the bedroom & living area. I got myself confused. Even discounting the porch, it's still nearly a metre too short.

What we were hoping for/expecting, is some tarpaulin that fits the underside of the main tent (not porch) to keep the underside of the groundsheet clean, and offer a little extra protection.

That I can do with my old tarpaulin cut to size (which, by the way, does extend into the porch area.), but the footprint I got is too small.

My mistake, I should have checked with Millets or Coleman what the measurements were before buying, but I presumed it would fit the "footprint" of the tent (-porch)

Thanks again.
