I even had a spare (or was it 2?) supplied with a new tent a few years back, along with a patch of fly-sheet for repairs. So check all tent bag/pockets etc, as there may be a spare in there somewhere.
Problem being, the original is a full and complete loop, inserted into the fabric tab before it's all stitched up at the factory.
Your replacement will need to start off as a straight, open-ended length, then threaded through the fabric tab, and whilst it will end up as a loop, it will be a loop with a knot in it!
Not quite as pleasing on the eye, but... subject to your knot tying skills, it will still perform it's duty, as intended!

If you take a closer look at the photo Mucker, there is a knot in the original, but it's almost hidden by the grass, so no downgrading of aesthetics!
You really do need to tie a good knot though as you pointed out, especially with the elastic shock cord otherwise under tension it tends to 'creep' along the cord until it 'falls off the end' and then you no longer have a loop! Certainly had continuous 'rubber band' type loops sew into the fabric tab on tents, but replacement with knotted shock cord has never seen any loss of performance/effectiveness.
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
Instead of elastic, I would be inclined to make loops out of guys, like the 4mm reflective ones from Clamp Cleats, using a single rather than double Surgeon loop knot (I had to look it up what it is called).
I had also made short guys with a Clamp Cleat so that it is adjustable, as an reinforcement to the rubber elastic shock cords on the side screens when I had my ESVO Bedouin 340 Dutch pyramid canvas tent when it was windy, as the shock cords looked kind of fragile to me!

Long ago, we got replacement rubbers - as has been said, the original guys are sewn in. The replacement had a much wider end, a wedge or double headed axe shape. Put the guy loop end through the tent hem loop, the wider end can’t pull out once it’s pegged. But buying a long guy & cutting it up will be like for like. (I’m for simple knots, having done my Girl Guide knots badge! )
