Can anybody tell me what is the largest geodesic camping tent commercially (retail) available in the UK. Not a dome tent. All manufacturers considered especially those with good honest reviews, photograph's and videos welcome.

I'm particularly interested in a 4 - 5 season tent that can tolerate harsh winter camping conditions that can spaciously accommodate six adults or up to seven with space for kit, rucksacks, etc. Separate sleeping compartments are not essential, nor windows or a vestibule, but should include an inner that integrates with the fly sheet, ideally with a snow baffle but must be strong and excellent hydrostatic head rating, 5000HH and above, with thicker glass fibre poles proffered, any advice?

For a tent that big that can be used for cold winter camping, I would advise looking for a cotton canvas group tent with sturdy metal poles, as I do not believe fibre glass poles would be able to support the weight of the fly sheet for such a big tent especially when it is wet and windy!

ESVO in the Netherlands have a few on their website, not sure if any of them would suit:

Interesting query. I’m guessing you’ll be using it at a base camp at low level, because it’s too big to carry far from the vehicle. Don’t fancy something that big half way up a winter Munro anyway - not very aerodynamic in gale force winds.

Hi Fiona, Christmas greetings to you , so yes defiantly for base camp, not for carrying on high peak expeditions, but something that would withstand the worst conditions should the situation arise.

I'm thinking something like the older Roben's Green Castle or similar but ideally with the poles crossing over 3 ply to gain strength in the wind and rigidity. Although this is not exactly what I would call 4-5 season accommodation.

There is a manufacturer description of the Green Castle on this site and to be fair it ticks a lot of boxes, but unfortunately no reviews also regrettably I can see it is no longer made or sold, and has fewer features regarding the structure and pole layout, but the idea of having a larger geo style tent for using as base camp is simply to cut down on space when travelling (small car) and keeping pitch costs down, the tent would predominantly only be used for sleeping and used with a small social group who would prefer to camp together rather than in numerous camping pods. We carry a mixture of Vango Hurricane 200 & 300 series and F10 XPD3's that are bomb proof for splitting up the gang up on the hill but sometimes its nice to be all under one roof.

Looks Fabulous, expensive and very unusual, personally I would tend to go for something a lot less conspicuous and not stick out like a Nasa Radome but what a brilliant idea, especially for tracking Santa and the magic sleigh this winter! Thanks for your suggestion.
