I've just bought a couple of camp beds and was given a two man tent for free, I've just opened it up and it's got mould spots on it, is there anything I can do to get rid of them please

Hi,

I have a large vango family tent which is much loved and well worn after 4 summers of use. Unfortunately this year it was put away for a few weeks while still a bit wet and it has some mould on the roof. I see the comments above recommending to throw the tent in the bin but the mould on my tent is not as bad.

Has anyone had any luck removing mould and keeping the waterproofing in tact? My OH started cleaning it from the inside yesterday but this seems to have damaged the waterproofing for some reason. It rained in the evening and the areas she had wiped appeared wetter than the rest of the tent. I went into the tent and sure enough, the areas she had wiped were wet on the inside. I find this strange as I thought the waterproofing would have been on the outside. The cleaning product she used might not have been suitable.

Anyway - the plan is to continue to clean away the mould using a milder cleaner and then put on a double layer of Fabsil to restore the waterproofing. I was considering spraying some bleach based mould remover (HG mould spray) on it but decided against it after some Googling.

Has anyone had any success getting rid of mould?

budgemook, the only cleaning product you use to clean a tent is plain water! nothing else, water and lots of it and a soft brush to agitate and then lots and lots of rinsing, do not use bleach! of any sort!

Yeah, we (my wife) used soda crystals albeit well diluted. I had suggested using soap to be fair based on googling. Anyway, it's really obvious that where she cleaned the water now seeps in. We'll see if a couple of layers of Fabsil brings it back.

When you say rinsing, what do you mean? Some of the mould was inside the tent so rinsing will flood it.
