That Lichfield is available for 100 quid on ebay so it is definitely on the shortlist.

I may grab an Aldi tent at the weekend, soak it in the back garden, and if its naff I'll get a refund.

Well I purchased the Aldi tent yesterday. Stuck it up in the back garden and was suprised how nice it looked. Gave it an absolute soaking with buckets of water and the only leaking was on the door zips and at the bottom where the door meets the ground.

Unfortunately from the design it seems that any water that runs down the zip will get to the bottom and go in where it meets the ground as it isn't sealed there, it has a flap which doesn't keep it all out.

The bedroom areas stayed dry though and as the water was isolated to close to the door I think it will be OK for a festival.

I've got a couple of questions after the slight door leaks I experienced.

Firstly, the zips have a cover which is velcro'd over the zip on the outside, but as it is velcro'd in patches and not all the way down, water can get to the zip. Therefore the zip can leak. Is there any way to improve this?

Also at the bottom of the doors, there is an extra flap of material. I can never work out whether you're meant to fold those into the tent to block water or fold them out of the tent to form a run-off for water.

As there is a little gap at the bottom of the doors at the zips as obviously the groundsheet can't be sewn to something that has to be unzipped, I guess I'll just stick a lump of kitchen roll there if it rains to block the water, and try to make sure the door faces downhill!

not much you can do about the velcro, most zip baffles are like that. You got the right idea about facing the door downhill , and the kitchen roll or a cardboard box as a doormat . The flaps work either way. If tucking them inside put them under the groundsheet
