Thankyou very much guys for your helpful advice, so the hunt is now on for a 6 man tunnel tent with sig and hydrostatic head of 3000, get me, two days ago wouldn;t have had a clue what any of that meant ha ha!! Have heard tunnel tents are a bit easier to put up and that would be a def + for us. Are there any tunnel tents that aren't inner first? Oooh and forgot to mention my husband is 6ft 2 and I'm 5ft 8 so need decent head room

Most tunnel tents are flysheet first or all-in-one pitching, so that's not a problem and most family ones are standing height 210cm, so that should be OK - my OH is 6ft.
What you might have some fun with is getting a 3000HH SIG 6 berth for £150 - but I bet someone will prove me wrong.
I know its not below your budget - but have you seen this posted by Keely on another thread? Excellent value and design for 4 people as it has larger than average bedrooms that will take 2 narrow single beds or a proper double and has an extra storage area so don't need to go for a 6 berth. With 3000HH etc it is an excellent buy at £199. If you can find a 4 berth with 150cm or wider bedrooms and a separate storage area you don't necessarily need to go for a 6 berth and it will probably be cheaper... There is also the option of adding a canopy / extension for some 4 berths that will give you extra living space for longer breaks.

Whilst browsing around our local independant (Kendal Camping) I came across this tent.
It's really nice AND for a change when it says 4 beth it really will take 4 (2 bedrooms of 2. The living ares isn't huge but will take a table and 4 chiars and still have plenty of room left. Bonus is it has anothe space with one of the bedrooms which can be used as grate storage or for a toilet as well - you could even use it a bedroom but it hasn't got the inner for a bedroom.
It's 3000HH so will stand up to some weather - and Sunncamp is a trusted good make. The best thing about it was it's been reduced to £199 - and they have 3 left.
I'm not buying but thoought it may be of some use to some of you who are looking for a new or fist tent for a family of 4 at a good price.
This is the tent elsewhere and you can see Kendal Camping is doing a good price (they have other good deals going on 2009 tents ready to make way for the 2010 coming in in March - worht a phone to see what they have)
Buy the best tent in your budget, you can beg, borrow and steal most other things and go away with some sunshine and see if you enjoy it before spending a small fortune. Most campers will offer frindly advice on site if asked and also pass on some forgotten items for your stay.
Just don't be put off if the weather tuns cack, your tent explodes into small peices and your soaked, tired and gagging for home, it's part of the fun...............................better than being in work and you will laugh on your return journey home.

Ha ha love it!! Am getting excited , but think my head is a little full of sunny bird song filled mornings and camp fires with a large glass of something yummy, trying hard not to think about soggy, muddy fields and cold damp sleeping bags! Still hunting for our first proper tent, may go for a vango aspen 700 we've found or poss a easy camp ancona 800.
Glad to see you're getting the bug already Weeksygirl, keep us posted on the tent and I can't wait to here about you're first trip, when are you planning to go?

Will let you know once tent is bought, taking nearly as long as buying a new house ha ha

Hi, back again and in need of more help, may have to post this question again if noone spots it. We have the option of two tents and can't work out which to go for,
1. Secondhand, but only used for one season Gelert Quebec 8+4, which has very good reviews, good sleeping space, but uncertain the living space will be enough at 160cm wide by approx 300cm. Has hh of 3000mm and useful extras like loft storage and cupholder. all for under £100.00
2.Easy camp Ancona 800, new, but with a lesser hh of 2000. It does however have a considerably larger living space of approx 300cm by 240cm widening at the entrances.Sleeping space is smaller prob comfortable for 3 in each end, but we are not likely to have more than 4/5 plus dog in it anyway. Only has a couple of reviews, but both good and again under £100.00
We are struggling to make final decision so advice please, oh and prob only going to be summer campers for the time being if that affects advice.
Thanks again you lovely people, charlie
2000HH is perfectly OK for UK camping - I have a 1200HH tent which has never let me down!
No experience of the 2 tents you have mentioned but Easy Camp tents come from the Outwell stable so quality is excellent. We have an Easy Camp Licata 400 as a weekend tent and think it's great. I would agree that the tents would both be better sleeping 3 in each pod rather than 4 - our airbeds are 75cm wide which is one reasone we bought the Onty 8 as it will actually accommodate 8 airbeds.
Buy a tent with a much living space as possible - if you're all stuck inside on a cold, wet day you don't want to be on top of each other. Our Khyam Ontario 8 has a 3.15m x 3.3m living area which we find to be large enough for the 5 of us and all our gear!
hi we used one of these once (and still have it.) massive tent, easy enough to put up with just 2 adults but because of the smallness of the pitch we were on we were unable to guy it properly and it became very unstable on a blowy cornish hill side. it has 2 4 berth sleeping compartments and we only put 1 up for 2 adults and 2 toddlers, which gave us loads of room for storage etc. I don't think it has a sewn in ground sheet, though i'm pretty sure it has a living area groundsheet. there is a review of it on here, which is favourable so if you can guy it better than us it's probably ok. It never rained when we used it so I can't comment on it's waterproof ness. hope this helps.
