Nobody on here is acting as judge and jury and nobody wants to hang, draw and quarter and you are perfectly correct that it was yours to do as you wish.

Firstly I really hope that your last line was another tongue in cheak comment.
Secondly I hope you realised that at my comment and most of the others were also tongue in cheak.
Obviously your tent to do with as you wish. I think most of the posters were reading and not believing what you did though because they are held in such estime here, if not in Holland.

Dont stop posting as thats what the forum is for, I can see where the others are coming from with their comments as it appears cabanons are rather popular here but as you say you arent in the uk, I daresay its the rarer bits like the canopy that people are upset about because they are wanting those bits themselves.
Theres nothing more annoying than finding someone has chucked away something you wanted.
We also threw away an old frame tent a few years ago after advertising it locally and getting no response, we needed the space in the shed so it had to go one way or another. Canvas is much more popular now of course.

Ive been on forums since the mid 90's and the one thing ive learned is never to take them too serious. Some of the forums ive frequented over that time had next to no moderation and there were constant verbal "fights" and bickering.
This site is a veritable oasis in truth, genuinely the friendliest forum ive ever posted on. Its my "home" on the net now.
One small thing for people reading, as it might be helpful to them, Freecycle is a worldwide organisation and is a great way of disposing of anything that might have some life left in it... or to pick up your own free bargain on occasion!
Look forward to your next posts Angelic, always enjoy reading them. Your one of the posters who's threads I always read along with some of the other regulars on here.

When was this tent weathered or when did it last get wet?
Angelic says it was weathered but then says it has only been used twice in the dry and once in light rain, I would think it was very dry and I am not surprised it leaked
My 2000 cabanon athena leaked a little last year when it was used in the rain for the first time in nine years but a few soakings and dryings the seams tightened up and the leaks dried up

Don't leave us, Angie. I, too, always enjoy your posts about dutch pyramids etc. I have two Cabanons and not in the least offended! You are an experienced camper and know your stuff - perhaps you just had a duff Cabanon - I'm sure every manufacturer makes the odd bad one - even our French friends. Please do not take any comments to heart - we're all a little grumpy in the UK ATM 'cause the weather's rainy
My Conway voyager has started to leak ( i bought it 2 years ago and have only just used it :( ), mainly from the zip seams ans also it seems to be quite wet on the underside of the awning.
The canvas on the main trailer are was also really damp on the fabric although not actually dripping in. I've stripped the sleeping area from it's poles along with the awning. I'm going to take it to a place near me called Tent Valeting Services to see what they suggest.
Meanwhile i'm going to buy an 8-10 man tent and utilise the now canopyless trailer to carry all my gear in.

p.s. This is not a criticism of the OP - my OH reckons i'm the most wasteful person she knows :-)
just returned from a realy wet week in normandy and our cabanon antigua never leaked a drop very pleased with it its a 2009 tent, and it stood up to some prety strong winds too after a terential storm we woke up in the morning to see a lot of very damp people emerging from thier tents but we were dry and snug.

Yes, the canvas will feel damp or even wet on the inside if it's been cold or wet outside. Cotton tents are not immune to condensation you know!
If the zip seams in the roof of the awning are dripping chances are you've not got the outside baffles flat and pegged down well at the ends, or the elasticated shock cording that keeps them tight has perished.
And of course if you've not used it in two years it's likely it would need reweathered anyway. If it leaked on the first shower don't worry, if it leaks every time it rains thereafter there's a problem. You've not been cleaning it by any chance? No? Then it may just need reproofed...reproofing treatments need renewed every five years which is why it's best not to start using them at all if possible. In my opinion anyway!
See what TVS says on the day of course. But chances are there's nothing much wrong, unless the canvas has got damaged.TVS are the best but they're also not cheap, has to be said.

I own an Espace 8, Espace 6, Montpellier, Estoril, Andorra, Hawaii and 2 PN20s...luckily, I have never had a problem with leaks on any of them (as yet). Last month whilst packing away (2 week camp in Yorkshire) I noticed someone putting a canvas tent beside the bins. I went over and realised it was a Cabanon. They didn't leave the poles for whatever reason. When I got home I unravelled it...it was a Cabanon Julie. Full canvas and inners. It had obviously been used quite a lot due to the fading on the roof. It also had some small tears in the canvas. I decided to rescue as much as I could as the metal inner clips and other bits and pieces (d rings, zips etc) can be hard to get hold of. I had to cut the canvas with the sharpest tailoring scissors. The quality of the canvas and the stitching of the seems etc was amazing...I cut the bottoms off the bedroom pods as these make fab ground sheets for my PN20s. The underside of the roof was not faded at all and still a vibrant colour..I will use this as a tarp and sew the Cabanon badge onto it lol...the rest of the canvas will make pole bags to replace the hessian ones (pvc skirt in the bottom for extra strength) the window pieces will be used as large doormats to protect the tent carpet. I threw very little away. Someone may have noticed it and put it to very good use as I have done (although it did break my heart to cut it up!!)Please keep posting Angie and please don't take offence to what has been said
You have got me fascinated. Where the heck do you store all those tents? You must have a big garage or something. Your tents and the associated poles etc are not exactly small for any one of them. We have a problem storing our one and only Cabanon (Biscaya 320) in a dry storage space.
By the way, I have never understood why people have so many tents. Do explain please! We have only ever had one tent at a time and can't see why we would ever need more (unless it was a pop up for an overnight stop on our way down France).

Never gave this much thought till I read up on breathable fabric jackets, but if the fabric is fully wet outside, then it can't breath, so you will get condensation inside. The good bit though, is that unlike nylon tents, as the fabric dries, it also wicks away the condensation again. Magics.
