My Andorra, which was in absolutely mint condition when we bought it second hand cost HALF the price we paid four our Outwell Yukon river 4..... There are many bargains to be had on canvas tents if you look in the right place at the right time....
Where would I have to look please? :-)

Best places would be ebay, Preloved and possibly gumtree as well as the free ads on here, Most bargains are picked up around March time or in the midst of Winter, If searching on ebay then search for "frame tent", "canvas tent", "house tent" etc... and remember to allow for typos, the best bargains are usually the ones where the seller doesn't realise what they have and are badly described or just labeled as "tent".....
Most large frame tents don't have a sewn-in groundsheet which means creepy crawlies can be more prevalent.I've got a Cabanon Pacific which isn't my first choice of tent simply because it doesn't have a SIG.

I think one of the problems is the UK high street camping stores who seem obsessed with lightweight backpacker, technical type equipment (Blacks, millets, cotswold, etc), its trendier, new ranges in every season and looks flashy, with lots of marketing and product placement with mountineers, etc. Yet when I am on a campsite most people arrive by car. With this obsession the stores carry the backpacker type dome tents and then carry larger versions in the range for families. In my mind the bigger dome or tunnel nylon tents are not ideal when they get bigger and especially if you have space in a car anyway. It would not seem right for an "outdoor" shop to sell a canvas frame tent with cooking area etc that is a design that is 100 years old, when their ethos is all about the "technical" lightweight innovative products. Yet the market for family camping is huge but not really covered by the high steet stores. Someone is missing a trick. I get a lot of my campstuff from a caravan shop, not trendy, half the price but perfect for car camping. Many people go to these stores and have no idea what else is out there. I bet many of you dressed in canvas have got admiring glances and questions where you bought your tent from as I have. However, ususally the marketing wins. Take the example of the person who only camps from a car, yet has a very expensive, small backpacker Vaude tent, a Northface down sleeping bag, a mini expedition stove etc, half his boot is empty but they relish the fact their tent packs down so small, have the latest kit and the expensive name on the side and technical fabric. Of course he will buy next seasons tent when they come up with a new design. We have all seen them. Why? when it just goes in his car! The reason is its flashy, has the name and looks expensive and the high street gets to innovate with new models to sell. Give me anold canvas design that hasnt changed for a century, some comfy duvets etc anyday, but I will keep it for many years.
I'd love a canvas tent but never seem to be in the right place at the right time. AM sure there is knack to getting one at a bargain price, and I cant seem to get the knack

Hi I recently got back into camping and after buying a new Icaruss 500 and using it once. I bought a "cheaper" canvas tent so that's another being used although not as much as I would like
