This one looks promising:
Skandika Commanche teepee tent. Packs down quite small, some good reviews but never seen one in the flesh so don't know about quality. On the face of it, it looks ideal. Simple to pitch, plenty of room inside...only a 2/3 season tent but should be fine. Anyone have any experience of these?
That looks like it would have more room than the Navajo/Fairbanks...and being plastic will pack down...looks a good option for the OP?

That's a great spot and a great looking tent. All it needs for a weekend family camp is some sort of tarp rigged up for a cooking area, job done. Thanks for the info Caligula

One question...does anyone know what the quality of the Gelert is like compared with the Robens Fairbanks tent? (I have found a Fairbanks at almost £200 under list price new and wonder if it is the safer bet or whether there's not a lot in it?). I'm a little wary of Gelert due to their link with Sports Direct, although I'm also aware of the many issues some have had with the more expensive Robens Klondike tents. I guess you pays your money and takes your chances.
Decision had to be made so I've played safe and bought the Robens Fairbanks 4 man in polycotton and added a cheap tarp from amazon for a sunshade/cooking area. Job done but at twice the budget planned! It was on offer at £310 which for a Fairbanks, was a good price.
Thank you all for your advice and suggestions...the teepee won the day

You're very welcome...
There's a thread about these tents on this forum, with pictures of just that...

Again, in the reviews on this website, it is discussed in some detail, as are design difference.
I detest SD, I'm with you. With the current price, don't ask anything (SD wouldn't have a clue what you'd be talking about.....) just buy and go.....
As you say, £300 (Robens), or nearly 1/2 that?
The Gelert has one major? advantage over the Fairbanks, well 2, the price....and the ZIG...…
I'm very happy with mine for the price.....but have a butchers at the reviews?
Job already done as I've bought the Fairbanks. I'm sure that the Gelert would have been fine but there were a few things that I preferred about the design of the Roberts and the ZIG may be an advantage to some but it's not that important to me. The beefier central pole which doesn't take up internal space and the slight additional room that the shallower roof pitch plus testing to over 100mph wind speeds piped it for me. Buy once, cry once. They're both decent looking tents but I'm happy with the choice of the Robens. For extended camps we already have our Illusion TC800xl.
Yes, I like the pole on the Robens, and i'm sure the overall quality, whilst perfectly good on the Gelert would be better on the Robens.
I have been looking at modifying a pole for the Gelert, to come down at an angle to the foot of the door, but it would still be inside......then I didn't!! too much faff!
Yes that pole, being inside, although of little practical consequence...rankles still!
Re the groundsheet, I initially thought that of no consequence on such a tent...larger bells, yes.....but the nylon weave groundsheet seems to sweat the ground, and can't effectively or easily be wiped dry for packing up quickly. I have found it useful to stuff separately into a carrier bag if in a bit of a rush. This summer, to unzip it on a hot day has been bliss....but that won't happen again for 20 years!
Yes, that's a consideration with the groundsheet, so I bought a 2.5m sqr tarp to sit underneath as a footprint, hopefully avoiding the issue. £13 from an ebay seller for a 200g/sqr m reinforced tarp to suit.
For the sunshade/cooking cover, I bought one of the Unigear tarps and have to say it's a fab thing for the money (arrived this morning via Amazon Prime). Much better than the price tag would have you expect and cheaper (and better imho) than the entry level DD tarps. 6 guy lines and pegs included with it too as well as a carry bag.

Tent arrived today and to say I'm impressed is an understatement.
Despite having suffered a nasty accident which left me in A&E with multiple rib fractures, I was discharged early evening and with the help of painkillers and dutiful son, managed to get the tent up. Due to my condition it took 15 minutes but able bodied, I reckon I could do it in 5.
The quality of the tent is sublime. I was expecting the "4 man" tag to mean 2 person comfortably, but honestly, there's more than enough space for 4 adults to get a comfortable night's sleep easily without being too cramped. I'll write a proper review when I've had a chance to spend some more time with it but for now, couldn't be happier. Everything reeks of quality manufacture except for one let down which is the velcro strap to secure the groundsheet to the pole (I managed to tear the stitching on this adjusting the pole but it's an easy fix).
Anyone considering a luxury spec tent that you can stand up in for biking that takes a matter of minutes to erect and take down should seriously consider this....they even wind test these to 165kph! (over 100mph).
I'm sure the the Gelert would have done just fine, but am so glad that I put the extra towards this one. It's one of the finest tents we've ever owned, the Vango Illusion polycotton tent aside.
