I used these clips, attached to my homemade bird feeder spark arrestor. I now have a proper spark arrestor which has attachment points and I will use short lengths of chain to keep the guylines far enough away from the heat.

Your home made spark arrestor is huge!
It should not have a problem with tar closing it!
(mine would need now and then cleaning since it's small horizontal grate inside top hat pipe, only 7.5cm diameter)
From where are your attachment points, I understand why the guyline melted.
In your proper spark arrestor, are the attachment points under the fume/sparks exit level?

It's not really that big; just 6cm diameter. Yes, the attachment points on the proper spark arrestor are below the level of the mesh.
