As DOZY above, we started with polyester tents and progressed from there, our experience was actually the other way round in terms of the weather, we used our double skin poly tent to camp in October and were blummin freezing!!, We discovered the joys of Canvas when we camped with Anne (fostermum) and hung out in her Cabanon Adventure during one February half term and realised how much warmer and sturdy frame tents are.... The rest, as they say, is history.
We now own 2 Cabanon frame tents and 2 Outwell polycottons, I sold the last of the polyester tents only recently as I just didn't think we'd use it again, the last time we did, the heat was so unbearable (even at night) that we couldn't sleep or get comfortable....
I have never known of a situation where a canvas or polycotton tent has been hotter than a polyester tent and definitely know what I prefer now......

I have a poly tent and don't find it too hot, but it has numerous vents and full mesh door, and there is a gap between the bottom of the fly and the ground. Bedroom pod is cotton, with a SIG, so bit of a hybrid I have going on!
If I know its going to be very hot I camp in the shade or put a garden umbrella up.
Yes had two great days at forest camping nr Pickering. Nice to hear from you again, I thought we had lost you.
I now have two silver foil sheets from the pound shop. They are sold as emergency tents, but are just a large flat sheet, so perfect for the job. (maybee)
I will use them doubled, as they are very thin, but for £2 not too great an expence.
