i dont like the idea of over charging for a family sized tent pitch,as the owner of the pitch will normally make money back up,(pop, sweets, ice cream ect) but think its fair that an 8 man with front extension, side canopy and 2 cars should pay more than for your standard 6 man

The only thing with an over sized tent is you have ristricted your self to the type and kind of campsite you can use . For a long stay in one place i get needing a little extra space . I dont get why 2 people need an 8 man tent .But you do keep me amused setting up and taking it down lol
Nice to know fellow campers are such kind people!!! remember we will be laughing back right at you were tucked up inside in the pouring rain!!
Ive helped so many campers with big tents never had to assist any one with a small to medium tent . who said i have a small tent ???????????????? lol
5 berth for weekends, 6 berth for longer stays. Think we would struggle setting up anything bigger in "a timely fashion"!! Can't think why 2 peeps would need an 8 man tent, but if they can, well they have to pitch it not me. And we would (and have) helped other people pitch from a 1 man pop-up.
Theres 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids under 9) and we have a Vango Airbeam 800 8 man tent with a big porch.
We use one bedroom end (sleeps 4) as our bedroom and the kids share one of the 2 person pods at the other end. Gives us a nice central space should it rain and the table and chairs have to come in, nice bedroom size for me and the hubby with space for a wardrobe, and the spare space at the other end where we don't put up the last 2 person pod which takes things like bags etc. Porch houses all the kitchen gear and the bikes and chairs during the night.
I make sure all the sites we go to are big enough to give us the space we want and also 2 cars if necessary. Havent had a problem yet. We also have a sun tarp to use in France which I contacted the campsite about but the pitches are so huge its not an issue.
Mu opinion - there should be pitch sizes and charges accordingly, so yes a 10 man size pitch should cost more than a 4 man size pitch - regardless of numbers of people. And then find the site and price that works for you

We've a norfolk Lake (8 man) for 5 of us. Its roomy and fits a standard pitch. We have a wynnster hawk for weekends and its an 8 man too. Again plenty of room for the 5 of us. I do sometimes question the point of perhaps a couple using a 10 man tent, but then again its their holiday not mine.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
We have a kampa polzeath 8 man for the 3 of us. No problem from sites . The only site that stated a size was tents under 6 mtrs wide. Most tents would fit this.......

all down to Britsh Weather ,,, that we upgraded from a 4 man tent to a Kalahari 10... 4 peeps max when we go camping.
More an more peeps are turning to camping,, as a cheaper alternative to foreign hols and the likes ,, we all like space ,, and when it rains ,, boy does this extra space come in handy

Thats asuming they have a shop etc on site not all sites do . Over sized tents do restrict the sites you can use but if you dont realize it doesnt matter and there not all marked pitchs far from it
I know of 4 sites in the peakdistrict and Dales that have barred large tents and numerous others that carnt accomadate more than a couple and this isnt because the sites are small they just dont have the large flat areas required
Ive got nothing against large " FAMILY " tents i have 2 my self counting The home stead 5 and Tipi but i do find it weird that 2 people need a 8+ man tent .
When me OH get away with out the kids we wouldnt dream of using the big tents just seems like a waste of time and space but thats just us .
we have the 6 berth coleman coastline for a family of 4 (kids age 4 and 1) and it's perfect for us as we share the rear sleeping pod and don't hang the front one. I was almost tempted by the coastline 8 as it wasn't much more £'s but at over 7m I knew it would take us into the size of tent that may be either rejected or charged extra for at sites.
Hi, we have a wolf lake 5 birth for 2 of us (one mum, plus child) plus dog, we make the 2 bedroom pods into one big bedroom and its lovely. When he's older we'll use it as 2 sep. bedrooms. Great to have the space. For weekends we have a Hyper Rosas (4 birth). We used to hang the bedroom pods but don't anymore and it makes a HUGE difference to how much space we feel we have and comfort level. This size is fine in good weather, but not for any length of bad weather.
