I'm happy to cook in the tent (more usually, the annexe) but there are precautions you must take...
Make sure the rear of the kitchen stand is at least two feet from the tent fabric. Only use a gas cooker which has a metal 'shield' on three sides (I personally wouldn't use a petrol cooker inside, they have a tendency to 'flare' when first lit). Make sure you have a metre space above the cooker to the tent fabric. Never leave a stove unattended when lit. Make sure you have adequate ventilation in the tent...
I've cooked inside my tents for a good many years without mishap, but I am not recommending that anyone should do the same. Having said that, from a safety point of view, there is no more risk cooking in your tent, than cooking in a 'day tent' which most people deem acceptable...
We cook in the awning of our Hartford XXL . Wind can be a problem but last year we bought a wind break and have this across the entrance of the porch when cooking. We leave the camp kitchen, cooker and gas bottle in the awning all the time.

If you get the chance, try and see these different tents erected, either at a large shop with displays or have a nose at a local campsite near to you. Take her in doors along too, I liked the look of a wynster last year but she straight away noticed that it did not have enough windows. Yet everything else was great it had an out and inner very cool for the summer and warm in spring.
