Oh lordy!

I don't know where to begin!  We've been looking for a tent big enough for 2 adults and 3 children, I'm a tad claustrophobic so want something reasonably tall and not too cramped.  So we've dwindled our list down to either a Vango Aspen 700 or the Vango Killington 900.

We're pretty new to camping so these two seem a little pricey.

Any suggestions on a good sturdy tent, relatively easy to erect and not too crammed for a family of 5.

We've been to a few tent displays but get baffled by choice!

Any help would be very much appreciated

Joanne x

The vango killington 900 is a very big tent and you can buy it online for £350.00 which is a very good price

The aspen 700 can also be bought online for about £350.00 and that is a lot of tent for that money

The one thing you need to look at is the size of these tents when they are packed for travel do you have enough space in the car?

I too am new to camping but have just returned from my first weekend away in our new tent. We too like lots of space so despite the fact that there are only 3 of us, the third only being our two year old, we went for an 8 berth tent so we have room for "stuff".

I was as baffled as you and did lots of research before deciding. We wanted to be able to stand in the bedrooms as well as in the main tent and we needed a tent that could be pitched by two adults. We went for the Khyam Ontario 8 in the end and it seems good so far. We pitched it in under an hour inc. all pegs and guys and we are first timers. It also remained standing on Sunday night during some pretty gusty winds and rain. I thought that for £199 it was a bargain! On the downside....I can't for the life of me get it all back in the bag! Good luck...

have you looked at the VArio tents, they are very airy and spacious and good head room. Gelert and Sunncamp do them, we have a suncamp and the skylights leak sometimes which is annoying.  Ours doesn't have a SIG but the newer models do so are more expensive now, but still a reasonable price

We've got a Eurohike Grasmere (see picture on gallery) only cost £170 from Millets.

It doesn't have a SIG but we've never found that a problem. The bedrooms are big (enough room for a double mattress with space up both sides) and there's loads of room in the living area. It's easy to put up - I can do it myself in 20 mins and it packs away in it's own holdall which is surprisingly small for the size of the tent.

We used it last September at Vias in S. France and it kept out the worst thunderstorm I have ever experienced.

Happy hunting.

Rod

At £150-170 the gelert quebec 8+4 does us well. 2 Adults 3 Kids (4,6 and 9). It has SIG and is fairly easy to put up especially once youve done it once or twice. Although I agree some many tents to chose from!

Hello we've got a Sunncamp Mondial 1200. It is a very spacious tent with 3 good sized bedrooms and a very large living area, easy big enough for a table and chairs if the weather isn't great outside. It also has a SIG and lots of windows. you can see the details at http://www.sunnflair.co.uk/tents/mondial1200/mondial1200.html.

The best price i've seen is £325 online.

Good luck

Dave

If you are a bit claustraphobic you may want to look at the number and position of windows. We changed our tent tent becuase i did not like being zipped up inside in the rain with few windows. Also look at how much light comes through the fabric.

You may also want to consider footprint size and pitching time. You dont want a tent that takes ages to put up if you are only going for 2 nights at weekend as it can put you off going.
