Hello all (this is post 1 of 2 covering 2 queries i have with the Vango Oregon 800 2006 tent.)

I've just bought a new one of these and have just returned from it's debut trip over the bank holiday weekend down at the St Ives holiday park in Hayle, Cornwall. (a very good site for those who might be down that neck of the woods in the future.)
However, with the winds picking up we took a real battering last night although I still felt quite comfortable as the tension straps were secure.

I took the family swimming in the morning (Mon 7 May) and when we got back 2 sets of poles had snapped and the tent was lurching to one side. We quickly took the rest of the poles down and made a hasty exit but can any of you experienced Vango users suggest what might have caused this.
I thank my lucky stars that it wasn't in the middle of the night as the sleeping pod that collapsed had the kids in.

I'm going to contact the supplier as well as Vango as it's brand new - do you think it'll be covered under guarantee?

Thanks

Joe

(Post 2 coming up concerning pitching advice for said tent)

Hi

I had a very similar problem to you but with the vango vistas, which according to the advertising blurb stated it had Mountain attitude for those strong winds ( i predominantly camp in the highlands) can't say whether you'll get your money back or repair as I am in the middle of a slight dispute with the initial company and Vango still haven't replied yet to any emails but it is early days, these events have clouded my views on tunnel tents in particular, we just about got out alive with a little help from fellow campers, when one pole snapped the others just went in succession.  Ive now bought another tent as is it taking so long to replace or repair it

Hope you have more luck

I`ve come back from my weekend with four broken pole sections in my Vango Oregon 600. It was pegged out well, but the wind that caught it was just too strong and it folded up on itself. Have to say though, I`m shrugging my shoulders and not blaming it on the tent. It used to say on the Vango website that their leisure tents were only guaranteed in winds of up to 30mph. I`m not sure if it`s still there though. (Website down again....)The Oregon is a leisure tent, and the Vista is in the leisure tent section too, despite the "mountain attitude" bit. How can you expect a big leisure tent to stand up to very high winds?

Hi....we had a brocken "pole" and the supplier refused to replace it even though we only had the tent 1 week.  However I contacted Vango directly and they not only replaced the brocken "pole" but sent a whole set plus spares!  Never had had any problems since even in strong winds..........:)
