At present we have two Vango Delta 300's, but it time to up grade - so we can share one tent, have more protection from the weather and more indoor space.
So we're looking for a family backpacking tent for 2 adults, 3 children and sometimes our dog too (medium sized).
Yes there are some out there, if we're prepared to compromise and we are for the right tent.
We'd really appreciate any recomendations based on personal experience.
Here's our wish list:
Weight - under 9kg, preferably 6-7kg
Five berth
2 Compartments/bedrooms would be nice, but not essential
Entrance porch/vestible
For Muddy and wet clothes and shoes
Seperate day time space would be good byt not eseential
Wind and rain proof - 3 season preferably
we camp from late May to early September, but always seem to get heavy wind and rain even in mid Summer!
Outer pitch first prefered too.
Budget - up to £350.00 for the right tent.
We are looking at a Mountain Hardware Casa 6 (5.6kg & £350) - but they seem to be out of stock till September!
Anyone know where we can get one?
And has anyone experience of them?
Or can anyone recommend something similar below 9kg, we could increase the budget for the right tent?
We've also looked at Wynnster Shrike 5 Tent - SS07 and Coleman Traiblazer 5, so any experience of how they cope with wind, rain and family use would be good.
Thanks in advance
Sarah Thomas

Hi Sarah, the wild country family Khamsin - weighs 7.9 usual price around £400+ but field+trek have it on sale for £299.99, you can get more info on it from www.terra-nova.co.uk.
How long have you had your Family Khamsin and how does it fair in windy and bad weather and wet weather?
We were going to go for a family Khamsin, but I've seem some very bad reviews regarding it's performance in windy weather - been flatterned and the fly sheet getting rippied.
We've been in a tent flatterned by wind, by the sea in the middle of July and I don't want to repeat that experience, but still want to camp by the sea.
I don't have the F Khamsin!! but someone on this site has got one and said good things about it - do a search for 'khamsin' on the 'camping under canvas' forum and you should find the thread.
We recently bought our first Wild Country tent (Halo 43 2006 model) after recommendation on this site and it exceeded our expectations in terms of quality and performance.
I think I may have read the same review re. ripped flysheet on the Khamsin, but sure it was 2005...maybe quality has improved?! Anyway, I do hope that someone comes along with more info and you get the tent you want at a good price!

Have a look at Hilleberg. Either the Keron GT or Stallon Combi would seem to tick all your boxes ... except price, I'm afraid!
I have two Hilleberg tents (tho' not these models). They are exceptionally high quality tents in every way and inspire complete confidence. For backpacking (and therefore, I presume, wild camping?) you'll find no better combination of lightweight and robustness - but they are pricey.
[Warning - odd website: prefers IE to firefox or other browser.]
I looked at Hillberg - but they seem too small or too heavy with the Stallon Combi combinations
We really want a Mountain Hardware Casa 6 - they sound brilliant on weight 5.6kg and weather proofness and all for about £300, but they're just not available in the UK - all sold out and it's just too expensive to get one from America.

Sarah - re. the Casa, Ellis Brigham in Manchester has one at £329.99 but it may have been a display model (indoors) - check out the website for uk stores - good luck!
Sarah - that is one interesting (ie, weird!) looking tent - I can see why you're interested. I'd really like to see one!
Looking at the shape, I'd be a bit cautious of the "stormproof" claims, tho' I can't argue with the MHW reputation. And the inner first pitching would put me off.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
