I know there is a large forum on S.I.G's but i have trawled through that and not found an exact answer to this question.

Probably going to buy a Vango Idaho 400 with S.I.G in living area, but having not had a S.I.G before i am a bit concerned about what we do about sitting in the living area without damaging the groundsheet. We have a couple of those fold-away chairs (the ones with the cup holder in the arm, you know the ones) which have sort of "stubby" feet and my concern is that sitting in them will puncture or damage the S.I.G.

Am i just being a paranoid here? Would putting down one of those plastic-backed travel rugs absord some of the pressure? Should i put a another large groundsheet under the whole tent or just the living area? if the S.I.G does get a hole or tear in it is that the end of the tent or can it be repaired (duck tape?)

The S.I.G on the Idaho is very slightly putting me off getting one so any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers, John

We used similar chairs for a week on our SIG (Oregon 600) with no problems at all. I guess a rug would be even better if you`re worried.

not caused any problems with furniture on our sig, however we do have picnuc rugs down under the heaviest items just in case - have now sewn together 4 large picnic blankets to make a 'carpet' for our vango aspen (which will also fit in our sunncamp vario) to keep the sign clean, protected and keep the tent cosy for the kids - we also use footprints under the tents to keep the bottoms of the sig's clean......if in the event you do get a hole you can repair it with a patch from your tent repair kit (comes with all vango's)  or use a bit of duct tape or even tenacious tape for an 'invisible' repair.

We just put a couple of rugs down. We've had anything upto 8/9 people sat on a variety chairs and never had a problem.

My sister has bought a couple of eco-mats to go in her Montana 12 they're not cheap but hard wearing, warm and easy to wash off,she hung them on the washing line and got the hose pipe on them. They were dry in minutes.

We have the chairs you have and a table with same legs.We also use picnic rugs which not only protect the SIG but make it cosier inside the tent.In addition I have a groundsheet under the SIG purely to keep the bottom clean as others have done.Having a SIG or not is your decision.I like mine cos it keeps the weather out and anything else I don't want in the tent.lol

We have one of those fold up 2 man sofas that are basically an extra-wide version of your chair and have never had a problem with it putting holes in a groundsheet.
