We are going camping for the first time in our new Khyam ontario 8 next week and given the weather forecast and reports of leaky tents I am expecting the worst and the tent to leak! If this happens what will we need to do to seal the seams? Is it Fabsil we need? Hopefully we can get the tent up and seal the seams while we are on holiday. Any advice gratefully received.

if u need 2 seal ya tent first time round send it back iv not been campin me self 4 ten years but even then a new tent didnt leak what ever the weather
Fabsil is used on the outside of a tent to reproof. Seam sealant is like a tube of glue that you use on the inside around seams. Can you not pitch it and give it a hosing to make sure it's ok? Failing that, take some seam sealant with you in case, but if it does leak then take it back. Some tent manufacturers state that they will only exchange a faulty tent if it is tried before a trip (I know sunncamp state this), but its a bit impractical if you don't have the space. However, as long as the supplier is reasonable there shouldn't be a problem getting a refund/ replacement on a leaky tent.
Oh, forgot to add, it really stinks and you need to have good ventilation. It also has to be put on a dry tent!!!

I have been looking at your lovely photos, what did you think of Hollands Wood? After seeing your photos we are really thinking of going there! Our other choice was Durdle Door in Dorset, but I quite fancy all the wildlife from your photos.
We have ordered out first tent Scenic 5.0i from this site and can't wait for it to be delivered. This will be our first ever camping trip.

with a forest experience card and OAP discount (my husband not me, yet) going midweek in term time, it was neither expensive nor crowded and the setting is outstanding.
Looking at other threads, costs can mount up there if you have family and pets, since C&Cc took over
and staying a bit on thread here.. beware where you pitch if heavy rain is anticipated as you may find yourself in a big puddle!
oops, i thought this was the severe weather thread
