Hi totally new to camping we need a 6/7 man dome tent with 1 big bedroom and somehwere to sit and cook etc. Must have sown in ground sheets, and must be sturdy and weather proof. This is our first tent so don't want to end up buying one we regret getting. Any suggestions please!

you could consider the vango aspen 700 or 700dlx, a very sturdy tent due to steel frame, has 3 bedrooms side by side, although the divider can be removed between the main room and the small room on the right to create a large sleeping area, the other smaller bedroom is still separated but has a large zipped door through to the main bedroom. It has a huge living area and which is ample for cooking and relaxing, or if you go for the deluxe version you could use the extended porch for cooking, freeing up more space in the living area. Has SIG. Superb tent, can't fault it...but I would go for the 2006 model as this one features the porch door canopy - the newer 2007 model has a side opening porch door, plus you can get some good deals on the 2006, not much has changed on the 2007 apart from the colour and the porch door as far as I am aware. This is a big tent, and needs 2 to erect.

I've come to understand your choice of tent depends on how long your trips away will be. If everytime you camp you are staying away a week or two I'd personally buy a frame tent, giving you loads of room and good vertical walls. But if you only intend staying away weekends, just one night or two then you might want something lighter and easier, quicker to erect and easier to carry (some tents pack big filling your car and weigh 50/60kg).
Go visit some showrooms so you start to understand what the pictures on the websites and tent brochures really mean. Stand in several tents,as many as you can, then the brochure photos, designs, layouts, sizes and heights will start to mean something to you. Best of all - walk a few campsites and don't be afraid to ask the tent owners.
this has the sleeping compartments next to each other and a zipped in ground sheet not quite the sewn in but just as good in my opinion
I've only done a test pitch with mine but am very impressed with the quality and layout other than that i'd have a look at outwell's vermont xl http://www.outwell.com/ you may also want to look at the sun valley 8 and the indiana 8 not sure about the sig's on these
I havent seen many other brands on display but I gather vango are very good also www.vango.com

I had a look at the Aspen 700 and its a great tent - though I know it packs quite large - If you have a trailer then probably not an issue.
Take a look at the other Vangos, else try Wynnster and Coleman.
Also shop around - there are some great deals on the web - try united awnings, and even at the shops including costco, I understand there are some good deals out there at the moment. Alsofind a tent exhibition in your area - where you can view many tents and also generally get a good price.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
