Hi

Have just had a night camping in our new tent. It rained fine drizzle through the night and spots of water came through the roof into our inner tent. We have camped before but always in canvas tents which have never leaked. Can anyone tell me if these tents need weathering or has anyoune had similar problems!!

Also we were hoping to take it to france in 2 weeks . We have been camping in france in our previous trailer tent which was canvas and it never leaked even in bad storms. Would like to know which tunnel tents 5/ 6 berth can stand up to such weather.!!

Firstly welcome Angela.

It sounds like condensation to me rather than a leak. Modern plastic tents are very prone to condensation when the temperature inside them is greater than the air temperature outside of them.

You wouldn't really have come across it in canvas tents as they breathe much better than nylon tents.

Hi Piglet,Hi Amanda,

we have just come back from camping in Cornwall and suffered from condensation. We have an Outwell Arizona and would be interested to know if there is any way that the condensation could be reduced to save the living area getting damp.

Many thanks

Hollykins

Hi Angelasheff andwelcome to UKCS a most addictive website. As piglet pointed out it sounds like condensation, we keep all the vents open at night on our tent which helps reduce the condensation. Also ensure that damp clothes stored in the tent are kept to a minimum.

Sounds like condensation to me.....try to get it well ventilated next time you go.....they don't need weeathering but the seams wouldn't moan at a bit of sealer.

Thanks for all replies. Think it must be condensation then. Will try and get more air in next time.

When I was hiking we always left a candle light during the night and that really dried up things (socks and gloves) due to the heat.

Though beware of the fire...
