Hi guys just back from my wee weekend away in my new tent!
Now a couple of questions for all you professionals out there
1. why did i struggle to get my front door in the tent to shut (just in the middle of the door)? My OH and me moved pegs, guy lines but was still stiff.
2. My front part of the tent was about 3inches from the ground which made it quite hard to get pegs in why?
3. should it leak at the side strengthening bar, just at the pocket that they slide into?
thanks in advanced , i really hope someone can help

Hi, we have the Kestrel 5, same tent only slightly smaller. We are on our second flysheet as the first one had many leaks, not just around the strengthening bar pockets but also from window seams and door toggles. We are just back from our first trip with the new flysheet and I'm afraid that it leaks just as badly in all the same places. We also have the new problem you described of the front door being very tight to close, just in the middle despite much fiddling with guys, poles, pegs etc, and yes it is very high at the front also. I plan to get in touch (yet again) with the company we bought from tomorrow and see what they have to say. I'll let you know.
thankyou matshan , its such a shame as its a great tent, also we did have a lot of rain and i assume all tents will only hold so much water, hope you get some good feedback from the supplier i am e-mailing my supplier today see what they come up with!
It is a great tent, I love the space but not the leaks! Contacted my retailer this evening so he is going to get in touch with Wynnster and get back to me. Please let me know how you get on.

yes had an e-mail back from supplier. They have no experience pitching the tent so think it may be a pitching problem regarding the door and the front being to high.Have offered me seam sealant but want to speak to wynnster first incase they want the tent back. Glad to hear you have heard back from them too, who did you buy the tent from? We bought ours from world of camping good service so far!
I bought mine from Tents Direct, also great service from them so far. I'm not sure how they can say the front door issue is a pitching problem, we re-arranged and re-arranged till we were blue in the face and nothing helped. Also a big leak problem and water pooling on the skylight. As I say, this is our second flysheet, they gave us a new one, no quibble, after we complained about the same problems so now I have 2 leaky flysheets!
we were the same regarding the door, we were pulling pegs out adjusting our poles doing everything but still took the 2 of us to shut it! I am not that keen in getting sealant either as i dont no how sealant will seal the canvas pockets, mine was also leaking where the storage pockets were until i unclipped them! My one never pooled at the sky line some water on it but nothing leaked there, oh that must of been so frustrating, i would have of been furious, the thing is you will never have the same faith in the tent, lying awake waiting to hear the drips!
well will have to wait and see what they came back with next !

Just got back from 2 weeks in the Alps in my Kestrel 5 and did a very rainy week in Cornwall in July too.
The fly is high at the front but there are toggles on the groundsheet that bring it up inside the fly so the rain runs off and not inside.
I too found that the front door was a bit tight but it soon settled down after a day or two of rain! (hosepipe??)I had no problem with it closing during our last holiday.
I did have a bit of a leak at the zip on the side door but it was blowing a gale at the time, all in all I still love the tent and the space it provides.
Heard back from our retailer today. He has been very good and he says he understands that since this is our second flysheet no matter what he does we are never going to trust the tent again, and he's right. He has said that he will take the tent back and give us its full value off any other tent he is selling. Sounds fair to me but he has given us a couple of days to think it over and get back to him.
Debbie I'm glad you're pleaed with yours. I also loved this tent, great living space, good bedroom space too, easy to put up. But ours leaked like a sieve from the 3 main windows, the toggle points at the side door and the pockets for the side bars. And as 1doda1 says, it's no fun lying awake listening to the drips.
BTW, Matshan - thanks for your advice on the B+Q tarp as a a footprint groundsheet, it fitted perfectly, wish I'd had it for the mud soaked week in Cornwall.
You're welcome, we are just back from a mud soaked week too and the tarp ended up in the bin onsite it was in such a state, better that than the SIG though...
