I reckon nobody puts a tent up wrong, and knows that they did.....
Ohh, you`re so wrong there. I`ve got friends that have been camping for decades and they still slap up their tents in the most slovenly ways....."Can`t be bothered", "Not going to be windy anyway", "Ohh, you don`t really need half this stuff" etc etc. Even HUBBY has his moments of skiving if he thinks I`m not watching, and he`s always trying to invent ways of saving time by not doing things.
Fact is though, I`ve never lost a tent yet, and the only leaks and damage that have happened to them have been a result of either acts of God or some half-hearted pegging by my dear OH that I hadn`t spotted. And I`ve put up some cheap dodgy crap in my time, for other folk that have come camping with us.
Incidentally, if anyone reading this thread has bought a bargain basement tent, the one thing you can do easily to improve matters is to buy it some decent pegs.

Do you mean stronger sturdier pegs will hold it down better? I take the point but isn't the correct erection of the tent number one protection against mishap. Even with basic pegs is it not correct you stand a better chance if your tent is erected properly.
I have seen many campers not bother with pegging out all the guy ropes but I have felt inhibited from pointing out the error because when you know they have been camping much longer than yourself you feel they may think you are being a little cocky!

ahhh.... it's not the tent, nor the pitching of it... it's the tent pegs......
Personally I'd prefer the pegs give up holding rather than the guy rope being ripped from the anchor point on the flysheet; even if it is some cheap dodgy crap.
I bought 6 cheap plastic pegs and used them on the 3 front & 3 rear guys of my Rage tent - all the other pegging points were done with the pegs that came with the tent. Not one pulled out of the soft ground in the high winds we experienced the other weekend - but I was woken a lot in the night by the bangings & cussings of fellow tenters banging their pegs, which had lifted, back in.

Hey guys,
Can you give me some advice on 8-10 man tents? I'm going to a festival in Ireland in a couple of weeks, and need a tent for around 8 people. I was looking for reviews of Leben and Rage tents that I saw on Ebay and I found this thread. They seem to be ridiculously cheap, which is making me thing twice about buying one.
I'm well able to pitch a tent properly, although I've never really pitched anything bigger than a 4-man.
What would you recommend? I'm on a budget, but I don't want to buy something that'll only last me the weekend!
Hi i was a bit like yourself ,so i asked for advice on rage bergen 8 .The replies that i got ranger from dnt touch them with a barge pool to stood up to the worst of the welsh weather so i am waiting fro my tent to arrive and try for myself.
I did though bought some good tent pegs and going to inspect it with great detail when it arrives ....

I would argue that using decent pegs is almost as important a part of proper tent erection as knowing how to put them in.

Val, Based on your experience would you recommend the "Delta" peg. I must admit I'm not totally convinced by them but I'd value your opinion.
