first time ive got in contact please help. it may sound a daft' do you leave all your gear in your tent when gone off all day. or is it wise to put some stuff in your car

Hi, welcome to UKCS, no it's not a daft question, not asking it would have been daft i think this must be up there with the top worries for new campers, most stuff is left in or around the tent and will be quite safe on a campsite, obviously there are things that you don't leave because there are no guarantees, cameras, wallets, purses, most small things of value can all go with you but in general tuck stuff in the tent, zip it up and it will remain untouched 99.9% of the time

anything of high value or things like games consoles, phones, cameras i leave in the car if we go out, everything else stays in the tent. I have never had any problems but have seen a couple of reports this year about thefts from tents.
I leave everything in the tent except valuables which get locked in the car out of sight. But I only have bog standard oldish equipment and chairs etc. The only exception is my daughter's pride and joy - storm kettle, which also gets hidden away just in case. I have never had anything stolen and I think theft is very rare on a campsite.
