I'm really stuck! looking for a new tent for this year. I currently have 2 tents a Royal Montpellier 12 which is lovely when a gang of us going, and a small peakland tent which i take when i know friends are going to be about so as can use their living space should it turn wet!. There is only me, my 6 year old and Jerry the dog that mainly go so looking for something easy to pitch but with good livng space for those wet days! Currently torn between the Outwell Colorado 5 and the Vango Orchy 600!
Anyone any advice as to wich would be the best had no expereince of either makes.
Thanks alot
Carole

Got a Colorado 5 for the two of us. Been all over Europe in all sorts of weather from 35 degrees sun to howling rainstorms. Never once let us down - very tough and stable. You can open it all up in the heat, and it doesn't leak at all. Goes up in about 40 mins. Loads of space. Not too heavy. No SIG (big, big plus for us.)

Thanks for the always cood to hear from someone who has first hand experience! One problem just found another one of a similar price which looks good Coleman Galileo L! (Things are going from bad to worse!)

I have a Colorado 5, which we love, so easy to put up, take about 30 mins, survived lots of trips with 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids. quite roomy, in saying that just bought an sv8 as son & daughter getting too old to share.
Maybe i'm biased but we have found the colorado great, we have the model where the sleeping pods are seperate - I think the newer models they are together, as in the older models you can shove stuff down between them. would recommend an extra groundsheet underneath it, otherwise sleeping pods directly onto grass, we also have the front canapoy and side canopy so even cosier!
Never had a problem with the seperate groundsheet, goes down in about 5 mins, once you've lined it all up. The tent has survived a stormy two weeks in cornwall last summer - extreme winds, no problem, and plenty of heat as well.
would recommend it, going to keep ours for short trips.
good luck

There are some differences between these two models though they are comparable in terms of quality. Both of them have an HH 0f 3000mm, and both have fibreglass poles. Both makes are quite popular and have their fans.
The main differnces I can see are:
1) The Orchy has full sewn in groundsheet throughout and the Colorado does not - do you have a preference?
2) The Colorado should be a little easier to put up as it does not have any crossover poles, unlike the Orchy.
3) The Orchy is quite a bit lighter when packed (just under 16kg compared to the Colorado at 22kg) - is this something that affects your choice?
4) The Colorado has mesh doors but I can't see these mentioned on the specs for the Orchy - mesh doors on the flysheet can be great in hot/humid weather for increased airflow, without lots of flying bugs getting in.
What I sometimes do when trying to decide between tents is to draw the floor plans side by side properly to scale - it can really help you to see which has the larger living area, in a way that just looking at numbers does not.
Ultimately iy is down to you and it may be best to wait until tent displays go up and you can see them for yourself; often there is an indefineable something that makes you go for one tent over another.
Have you not considered the Gelert Lokon Vario range? We have the Lokon 5 but you can also get a 4 and 6 berth. It is fantastic for leisure space, easy to erect and very sturdy even in the wet and wind that we had last "summer"!! Best of all it has decent headroom all through (including bedrooms) and a oveable frontage to make a porch if you want to. We love it and certainly won't consider changing for anything else.
God bless x
Our Colorado has a HH of 5000 thingies - but I suspect the numbers mean very little in real life since water will come in through a dodgy seam and not straight through the fabric.

brought up some good points! yes sig is improtant to me! hate thse draughts, and the puddles i still end up with even with mud flaps!
I am more in favour of the coleman i think now! SIG and very reasonable prce with yeomans right now, and i think with tunnel style end up with more useable space!
Oh and Vikkie Anne! Please don't confuse me any more! (doesn't take alot!)

I'm not saying anything but...... "have you considered...?". Only joking. Sorry your tent has sold out, I'm sure they will be getting more in for the new season though.
God bless x
