We are looking at buying our first family tent, and we don't know what we're doing - we'd be really grateful for any advice.

We'd like a tent with a large bedroom (room for us and the travel cot) which then converts to two separate bedrooms with a divider down the middle.  I've been looking on websites, but a lot of them don't seem to give such detailed information.

Ideally the tent will also have a SIG.

Any ideas will be most gratefully received.

The Montana 6 looks absolutely wonderful, but unfortunately is a bit pricey for us.  But I will investigate whether other Outwell tents also have the same inner section as this is exactly what we want.  Thanks very much.

Have you looked at the Outwell Minnesota? We have the Minnesota 4 - Large bedroom with divider plus sewn in ground sheet.

£100 cheaper than the Montana and a dream to put up!!

Thanks - this does look really good.  Have also been looking at the Coleman Darwin 5, although I'm not sure how the bedrooms work.

I think I will have to go to a showroom and check out both of these.

Hi Hooneete thats the best thing to do go and make a trip of it and look at some tents.be carefull of Ebay and if you do find a second hand tent local take someone who knows a bit about them and ask to see the tent being put up.You coud try searching for 'Yeomans' they may have a store near you

Just in case others are on the same quest, I've been informed that the Darwin 5 does not convert to one bedroom.

The search continues...

I am pretty sure the vango venture 500 has a removable partition. My friend has one and loves it because it is easy to put up aswell. It is a 5 berth and has good reviews. you can get one for around £79. There are some available on ebay for £69.95 plus postage.

good luck

Can't wait for some better weather...

here Select Outwell at the top & have a look at the Hartford M,2 down 2 right, its a 2005 but a higher HH rating than the newer tents, less than £200 too.
Or maybe the Minnesota 6, top right, 2007 model, both have the layout you want but are different shapes.
We have the M & its a really good tent. Also takes the porch for extra space.

What about this?

They have decent reviews on here (do a search?) and used to be sold via this site.

If you felt you needed a bit more room, and for safety, you could always invest in this matching kitchen tent.

Best of luck, whatever you decide.

PS

Should be easy enough to pitch, has only 3 poles, good HH, good headroom and a reasonable price methinks. I'd certainly consider one as a starter tent, if I wanted a synthetic with SIG.

Here are the dimensions:

260

Ooops, they are still sold via a link from this site, but a tad more expensive: here.

A big thanks to everyone for all their help.

Despite the fact that all I wanted from a tent was the flexible-bedroom thing, I seem to have gone and ordered one that doesn't do it...I know, I know, but we fell in love with the Darwin 5 and have managed to rationalise away the fact that this means the baby will be in a room on his own.

It was the headroom that swung it.  This will make a real difference to my husband, who is over 6 foot and doesn't bend easily.  I really liked the look of the Outdoor Revolution, and but for doubts over the headroom I think it would have won.

And I still have my eye on the Outwell Montana for our next tent :)
