Hi, I'm new to the forums but not new to the camping scene :)
I currently have a Vango Venture 500 which has been a great tent, but last year up the Lakes it rained all week and the living area in the Venture was a little small for me the missus and a 4 year old ....
So, ive seen a couple of tents, but am unsure which one to get ..
1st - Vango Oregon 800 (2007 model)
2nd - Gelert Alaska 8
Both for around the same price ....
I'm looking for your thoughts on which tent would be the better option ??
Thanks in advance :)

Hi and welcome to the site.Have you managed to view these tents? After experience i wouldnt buy a tent now unless i had been and had a good look. Both your choices are good brands though
Hi, thanks for your reply, yes i have seen both tents set up ... i like both, think the Gelert was a bit roomier ... but i know Vango are a good make as i have owned them before :)
Hello, We have the Kyman Ontario 8 which i believe is very similar to the Gelert Alaska 8.
We are very pleased with ours. I would recommend trying one out first just to get the feel of the space available

Looks like i'm going to go with the Gelert, wasn't too sure at first due to the fact i'd heard Vango was a good make, but not heard too much about Gelert, but as you say they are of equal quality i'm going for the Alaska 8
If you already bought the Gelert, then just ignore this, as I just joined last night!
I bought this tent just before Christmas 2007 from Campmania for £129. I can't wait to try it out in April. I did lots of looking around at different tents at a local camping store,The Gelert gave the most space at a cheaper price than the Vango or Outwell brands. I am reliablly informed that the lesser hydro rating of 3000 on the Gelert to the Outwells 5000 rating, is still more than adequate for the UK, including all that Cumbria and Wale's weather can chuck at a tent!.
Good Luck- Deric
------------- Still a novice at camping!.Hopefully I will get more confident and competent as 2008 progresses.
