We're in the process of looking for a new tent and like the look of the Outwell Nebraska XL and the Vango Kura 600. The Vango, according to their website, pitches in 25 minutes and the Nebraska pitches in 55 minutes. The Vango is new this year and I don't know if it is similar to any other models for comparison but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the Nebraska can realistically be pitched in 55 minutes or does it take more/less time than this. Also, if you leave the bedroom pods attached in the Nebraska how much time would you save.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your replies. The Nebraska is top of my favourites at the minute and I think it may be staying there!! Pitching time isn't too bad and I suspect it may be worth it in the end.

That is a really big tent but very nice. We had a few problems with finding camps to take us or ones that wouldn't charge us a double pitch.
One thing we thought of was turning it sideways if you have to then it's only 540 wide instead of the 750. Can't charge you a double tarrif for that.
Check out http://www.totalcamping.co.uk/index.php they have taken excellent care of us. I don't think they have their website updated so just email them or phone them. Cameron and Stephen will be happy to help. We had 3 leaky tents with them and they have stood by us the entire time. We were never without a tent.
If you turn the tent sideways would you not be encroaching on the next persons privacy? I may have to rethink. I do like the porch on this tent though to keep things in as so many sites are charging for utility/storage tents. Thanks for your reply.
I would also consider the weight of the Nebraska XL as it is a heavy tent. We had one and it did take abot 45-60mins to pitch, but it was quite difficult due to the weight of the steel poles. OH and I are both tall and not exactly weaklings! but I found it hard to hold up the tent from the inside whilst hubby put the poles on the pins. I also found it quite hard to put the poles on the pins, when hubby was holding the tent up from the inside!!
We had to return our Nebraska as it leaked and went for the Outwell Georgia XL instead. This is easier tp pitch IMO and doesn't leak. Hopefully the 2008 Nebraska's don't leak.
Thanks for your replies. I hadn't considered the weight of the poles. I'll take a look at the Idaho range aswell. We don't want anything that takes too long really as the children get very excited and may get impatient if we take too long even if they are allocated "jobs".
How do you get on with pitch size with the Georgia? We looked at this one but were concerned about pitch size.
Are there the same issues with weight of poles with the Idaho range?
I think you are wise to be concerned about the width of a tent, anything over about six metres is (IMO) increasingly going to be problematic. I agree with your concerns about pitching sideways as well, that is very considerate of you.
As an add in to your time concerns, pitching the tent is for most people a small part of set up and take down time. You need to think about the rest of your set up and try to keep it streamlined. If you add things like larders, shelving units etc. that need to be constructed you are going to add to your timing.
It's worth finding some of Valk_scot's post about using a modular packing system. We've switched over to this and find that it saves us lots of time.

Again, many thanks for your replies.
Hiya,
We have only struggled on a C&CC site, who wanted us to pay double pitch, but couldn't guarantee a pitch next to each other LOL (maybe they wanted us to cut the tent in half!!) Needless to say, we never went. I'm not too fussed as I find their sites a little too regimented for me.
There are many sites that take large tents without issue, but some sites will expect more payment, although it does irritate me a little that you can fill a pitch with gazebo's, utility tents, cook tents, pup tents..and so on for little extra charge, much of which can be more that the size and overall footprint of a larger tent.
The Georgia XL does have a large footprint, but I would rather have the kids in their own space, for better sleep, than us all lined up in one elongated bedroom, like sardines, with dividers between us. Each to thier own, eh!
Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. We're going to have a good look at some tents in about a fortnight so hopefully will find something suitable.
PigletandTigger I will have a look for those posts. We did have a larder unit and a kitchen unit but I quite fancy getting one of the camping gaz cookers that are all in one as too many units was a bind.
johilder70 the separate sleeping areas in the kura was one thing that made it attractive. Can't wait to start viewing again.
My brother has recently changed his tent due to having a similar pod design, he regularily had to pay for 2 pitches due to the size, his new tent is a tunnel design although caters for the same number of people and as a result can get onto normal pitches.
Something worth considering is also this year the regulations with distance between tents gazebos etc has changed and become much more strict. you may find more campsites being more reluctant on the larger pod tents.
I would think hard before picking a Nebraska as having read a lot of these forums recently (hunting for ideas on my new tent) they seem to have a high leak record.
We had a Nebraska last year ( in fact we had 2 - leaky ones!!). Had all intention of having a 2008 model this year as we loved the space and the 4 separate bedrooms (2 adults & 3 children) but noticed that quite a few sites wouldn't take a tent this size.
We have plumped instead for the Vermont XL - more uniform size so will fit pretty much any pitch and so what if we've compromised on bedrooms - you only sleep in them!!
