I have been reading these forums looking for snippets about the vermont m. I'm about to consider buying 1 but I am alittle confused. Some sites are offering the tent for £299 others £399. Some have mentioned the more expensive being the 2008 model. I have read and been told there is no difference whatsoever between the 2007 and 2008 version, if so why so big a price difference?
Also alot of comments say that this or its larger version has leaked in rain. Can anyone give me advice, should I fork out for this tent or give it a wide berth. £299 seems like a bargain but I cant afford to make a mistake on a leaky tent, I'm hoping it will last our family for years to come.

Hi isedarken. There were problems with last years outwells namely the nebraska's.The only thing that made a difference as being 'new' was a cr*p thermometer and something i cant remember.Where have you seen these Vermont for £299? pehaps we can help with your decision. For the record i bought two Outwells last year two good ones at that
There were problems with the Vermont L leaking; there were afew stories on here about it. Friends of ours had one that turned into an indoor paddling pool. However, Yeomans were very quick to respond and they got an immediate exchange to a Vermont XL (they had to pay the price difference) which has been absolutely fine.
It was on their site, thats how I found it, perhaps they have removed it? they said there was only a few left...
I have seen several reports of leaking and also several saying it has held up well in torrential rain, my old tent has survived 5 years without leaking at all and was a basic 4 man gelert from halfords in a deal with other equipment for about £70, its just too small now. even that 1 gave up and leaked when we were in the new forest last year after that terrible rain for a week that caused all the floods. I'm proud of it to survive as long as it did under those conditions. I hope this will be the same.
I'm counting on the rule that outwell sell alot of these tents compared to the general market which means the returns will be small in comparison, also more people write negative comments on tents than positive who feel no need so hopefully theres many out there without a problem.
Millits have told me they have a 90 day exchange policy should there be a problem, so when i get it next week I shall give it a good soaking to test it, as well as use it a couple times on weekends. Any problems i'll let you know.
I am also thinking of buying an Outwell Vermont M, can anyone tell me why there is such a huge difference in price between this model and the Outwell Bear Lake of the similar size? (Bear Lake being much more expensive).

Not sure I understand you Claud! Is the Bear Lake made of different and obviously much better fabric? Out of the two which do you think is the best choice for a family to use during the summer?

Lol, yes sorry, that was a bit of a short answer. Yes the bear lake is made of poly cotton as opposed to polyester in the vermont. It is more expensive, harder wearing, less susceptable to UV damage, breathable, cooler in the sun, warmer in the cold... the list of benefits of poly cotton over polyester is long and if you compare polyester to 100% cotton canvas the list can get longer. There are numerous posts debating the benefits of poly cotton and cotton tents over polyester on this site and i'm sure someone more knowledagble will soon be along to give you a link to them, I'm not clever enough to find them yet! However, for all the benefits i mentioned above, do remember that there are equal benefits to polyester over polycotton, the most obvious one you have already discovered, price. Also, the polyester tents like the vermont are massively smaller when packed up, easier and quicker to dry, lighter, again the list goes on as to the benefits. When considering the tent you want you just have to consider everything, cost versus pack size versus weight versus durability versus ease of drying versus where you will use and for how long.... and then you can start looking at shape and internal space.
Incidently we have an outwell sunvalley 6, a polyester tent. No room in the car for a polycotton or cotton and no patience to dry a big heavy tent every weekend, no budget for the sort of cotton tents that would appeal to me.
hope this helps.

We purchased our Outwell Vermont M a few weeks ago from www.Kingsmuircampingcentre.co.uk for £340 which was the cheapest we could find after many hours surfing the net. Also bought the carpet for £40 and the footprint for £15. Very helpful and fast delivery. Put it up for the first time today and were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. David
