Hi there everyone. I have read about this tent in other threads but I have a couple of questions before I go out and buy one:
Can I ask, is it going to be big enough for a family of 6? (2 adults and 4 kids aged 7, 5, 3 and 1).
We already have a large tent but it is sooo heavy and seems to take forever to put up. I was hoping that if we can compromise on a bit of space but have an easier time transporting it and putting it up then we'd be alot happier. It would certainly be worth it.
We try not to spend all our time in it anyway so as long as there's enough for everyone to crash at night then fine and the kids tend to sleep close to each other anyway. I also like the idea that one person could manage on their own if the kids needed entertaining.
I'd appreciate any comments.
Thanks

hiya,we used our new orchy 600 the other week for a 2 night stay and we were very pleased with it.but to be honest i think it will a bit of a sqeeze for 6 people.theres me,the missus and our 3 and 5 year old boys and we thought it was just enough room for us.id look at something a bit bigger if i were you.
hi hoochie...stewey here ..we just got orchy 600 and to be honest its more suitable for 4 people ...if you are going to be sleeping on double airbeds then you will get 2 per bed quite comfy but i think if you are lying on mats then yes you probably would get 6 in bedroom , you could possiby have someone sleep in living area , good luck in trying the orchy is a lovely tent...bye..stewey
I always thought that Vango were being a little disingenuous when describing the size of the sleeping areas of the Orchy tents. The width of the 500, supposedly for 5 people, is 270cm whereas the width of the Outwell Minnesota 4 is 280cm! The Orchy 600 is only 300cm wide.

Hi- I love my orchy 600 but I would say is more for 4 than for 6... with airbeds I can't really see how you would fit more than that in! I bought it for me and the kids (2x 10 year olds) but with oh if needed - we all have single airbeds. If you have different sleeping arrangements it could be done and is certainly easy to put up on your own with a good amount of living space but you may be better having a look for something bigger. Best thing to do is probably to go and see one up and go from there. Sarah x
I agree with the sizing being too small for 6 people. However if your goal is to get a smaller tent that is easier to put up then go for it. The grounsheet is the same throughout the tent so the sleeping pods are no different from the living area. Why not put 2 in the living area at night? We have done this in our Outwell and during the day we put the mattress and bedding in the sleeping pods.
I would recommend a kitchen tent with this size tent for safety reasons along with young children.
We have the Sumatra which is the polycotton version of the 600. We're finally getting to use it this weekend. There are 4 of us, soon to be 5 and it will still be perfect for us as we will make more space in the living area.
Thanks for all your replys, it's been really useful.
I love the look of this tent and the fact it is lightweight, easy to put up, we are all sleeping near each other and it's also a good price. We could try the suggestion of using the living area at night. I think we'll try to find one erect somewhere before taking the plunge.
Thanks again for your suggestions.

I hope to find one to look at. If not, I'll have to plot the size of it out in the garden and lay bedding stuff etc on the lawn. I'll look a bit odd but never mind hehe.
It is a lovely tent. We bought ours at the weekend and it only took 20 minutes to put up, so very pleased, and really spacious living area. We are a family of six but our two boys aged 15 and 9 have decided to sleep in a pup tent so we wanted something smaller and easier to put up/transport for us and the two girls. If the boys don't like their tent, there is enough room for the 9 year old in the sleeping area and my big lad can sleep in the living area - that's the plan, anyway!
Hi there, we have seen the vango orchy 600 on display at great outdoors in chester if that is near to you, very helpful. We are a family of 5, (3 teenagers) thinking of letting the lads sleep in the living area for the next year....it won't be long before they won't want to come with us then we will be down to family of 3... it's a lovely tent, we have looked at many but still decided on this.
Good luck

Will let you know how it goes.....
I promise not to laugh.... Actually, we did that very same thing. Especially when trying to decide on our longer trips tent from Outwell. It really helps when you can't see them in the flesh or can't remember what it was like inside. Plus you can compare. It made us realize the tents we liked were just way toooooooooo big for our needs.
I still really like the look of this tent. We live in Lancashire so the tent display at Dorset is no good to us but thanks for letting us know anyway Trifecta, and Chester is still quite a way but thanks for the suggestion mjtwinny.
We haven't yet measured it out in the garden yet but as you say, Mamabear, it'll be a laugh!
I'm hoping that it will be big enough for us because our kids are still small and as long as we all have somewhere to get our heads down then we'll be happy. It's nice to hear from another family of 6 and knowing how you would work round it, thanks littleshebear.
We love the fact it's easy to put and lightweight and we're willing to sacrifice a bit of space for it.
Not sure if you're anywhere near Todmorden, but they had an Orchy 600 on display in Springfield Camping last month, so it may still be there. And they do pricematching! (http://www.springfield-camping.co.uk/Home/o)
Personally, I would think you'd be better getting something larger for 2 adults and 4 children. The bedroom is only split into 2 with a hung divider and I found it quite cramped with 2 adults and 3 children under 5!
We haven't had a chance to find one up yet but however keen we are to get one we've decided we must look at it first before buying, just incase.
It's nice to hear from another family with young children. Our children are all under the age of 7 so I know where you are coming from! Thanks for your suggestions...
