Hi - Newbie here and having a nightmare needing advice

I have a trusty Outwell Hartford S 2005 - the old style dark green 5000hh dome tent with 2 sleeping 'pods'. We need more space (due to granddaughter needing a holiday) so I've been trawling the net for days and have found the front extension/canopy yet I cant fathom out if it will fit our tent - I've sent emails to sellers yet have had no reply! Please can someone help or advise me (no I dont really want a larger tent). HELP!!

looking at the sizes for the hartford S the dimentions of the front part of your tent is 200cm wide but the front extension for the hartford is 300cm wide so would not fit your tent as it was designed to fit the Hartford L, XL and the XXL

was also thinking you could try either a tarp for the front of the tent

or maybe a free standing canopy

Wow Thanks for all your help I didnt know that these were available - still havent done it yet - maybe at weekend!?

Last night think the heavens opened and threw all the stair rods possible - you should see Crewkerne so its a sodden Devon & Somerset!

Anyone who was down here will need a few glasses of wine to recover!

Thanks again Rachael

Not sure if it will work but if the tent is narrower than the intended one for the porch, try shortening the strap that goes across the ground to stop it spreading. The poles should flex enough to fit. If this works all you have to do is make one pole slightly shorter to reduce the height.
The rest of the porch will be right.
Pity you dont know someone nearby to try it.
We will be in Devon in 2 weeks if you want to try.

Hi Cliff n Pat

Thanks for your advice and I've managed to buy a 2nd hand extension 2006 model from a classified ad on website 'Preloved' for £40 - what a bargain and its on its way.

SO I think my husband will be taking a small hacksaw, some insulating tape and a bottle of whiskey (just in case it gets that bad). I've written down your suggestions and I've had a few replies from sellers of the extension to say it will fit as our tents opening is 210cms and so to is the older style (2003-2007). Mind you they maybe just be saying that to get rid of old stock??

Went to the tent show at Haldon Nr Exeter and they want £89 for the same yet newer (2008) extension and ebay are doing them cheap £69 not inc. postage.

Many Thanks for your help

We wont be able to have a trial run 'til the summer hols so I'll get back to posting and let ya all no.

Regards Ginasnap

P.S. We used to have boxer called Rex when I was little and when he went up to doggie heaven my grandfather said he would never have another dog as that dog was his life - he never did and I'll never forget what a super dog he was - happy memories

The actual bit that fits over the tent is elasticated so a bit of difference wont make a difference. Good luck with it.

I have the Outwell Hartford S and the front extension/canopy.  They fit better on the old models that we both have as the front entrance on this model seems to be slightly wider so making a better fit.  It is a great extension but the colour on mine is the 'new green' but that matches the hartford windbreak i also bought!

Enjoy camping using your new extension.

Hi again and this is a year on and I can honestly say we are delighted with the canopy! It fits a treat and friends that we went with are desperate to get their hands on one too. It gave us extra room and was fab to stick our fridge in (as it tends to be a bit noisy overnight) and wet clothes - those from the rain and washing! Just a brilliant piece of kit.

It was easy to assemble - in the rain and although stood up to the wind, if it had been gale force we would have to have down.

If you have an old Hartford pre 2006 dont be tempted to buy a new 2008/09 version as they do not fit.

These are definitely a must for the extra room!

Hi...I know this thread is yonks old but we have the Hartford S tent (two pods and living space) I dnt think the S got an upgrade with the same name? Desperately want an extension as we are taking our daughter camping and could do with a) the extra space b) salvage for 3 running back in from the rain without making the inner tent wet 🤣
So my question is did u need to tweak the extension at all or did it just fit nicely? Dis you take any photos at all....did we have camera phones back then??? 🤔🤭🤭
