I've never owned a tent before but have recently become quite drawn to the idea of camping.
I've had a look at some tents and been surprised at how roomy and inviting many of them are, for what is quite a modest outlay - when compared to say the cost of a holiday cottage for a week.
Does anybody know if the Bear Lake 4 front door has a mesh screen? I was looking at the Bear Lake 6 today and it didn't - which struck me as a bit odd given that both side doors did have mesh screens.
I have also been thinking about the Sun Valley, but having been in one today in the sunshine and then gone into the Bear Lake, I was struck by how much of a difference the polycotton makes to the internal temperature and feel of the tent.

We were considering the bear lake 4 like you and also the wolf lake 5. We too were very impressed with the temperature facture with the polycotton tents, going into one at the end of a scorching day and it was lovely and cool compared to the others. They are also a lot quieter eg the traffic noise not as marked.
I cant answer the bit about mesh screens on the front door as I cant remember. (think not?) but do you need them? as you will have reasonable air flow from the side doors? I would probably be better answering this after our hols in 4 weeks!
We, by the way went for the wolf lake 5, as there was more room for clothers etc in the bedrooms than the bear lake 4 (2 adults 2 kids) but the bear lake 4is better value for money per footage.
The only other thing to bear in mind (no pun intended) is the weight factor.

I can confirm the bear lake 4 DOES NOT have a mesh on the front door bit strange i think but this tent is superb in every other way I am sure you will be as pleased with it (if you do buy one) as we are.

I love the Bear Lake tents! Unfortunately, we don't have the capacity to carry such an enormous tent in our car and have opted for a Montana. With all the windows and doors rolled up (with mesh) it's fairly cool. If we had the space we'd have a Bear Lake. The other replies are right - even without mesh on the door, it'll be fine!
We've now had a bearlake6 for 2 yrs and it is a fantastic tent. I may sound rather dippy, but hadn't actually noticed no mesh with the front door - I thought there was one ... I was sure there was one!. Obviously we've not been blessed with hot weather on our recent trips, so not required the mesh as yet! I can confirm that in comparison to our lovely Coleman, the polycotton bearlake so much more comfortable in wet weather: there's little condensation/humidty, it's warmer and lighter (with the large windows), keeps out more sound, is almost big enough for a game of in-door footie (ok, slight exaggeration here) and has much less wind-flapping noise. For us, it was totally worth forking out for. We've only camped with it in the uk once and had no problems re fitting on a pitch but if you opt for the 6, you may need to check that the site will accept such a big tent. Camping abroad has been no problem as we always request a large-pitch (100m sq. plus). Bearlake is camping in luxury. However, we're looking to buy a tiny lite-weight overnighter tent as can't face pitching and packing the bearlake for a quick stopover.
