"how to remove sap from trees" In my case - pitch a brand new tent under them and the stuff comes pouring out!!!!
VERY weak washing up liquid, warm water and be gentle, should do the trick!

Leave it alone, it will dry and do no harm, that's what I did a couple of years ago and my tent is fine.
You are likely to damage the tent or waterproofing if you try to remove the sap.

We were under pine trees and got sap on the roof. We scraped the worst of it off on a warm day and the residue came off with a little meths.------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.

trees know how to do it,sorry !!!
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
