I'm about to buy a Montana 6 and I'm thinking of getting either the extension or the canopy to put the cooking stuff under, leave muddy boots etc. Does anyone have one and is it worth the extra money?

Also do they block any light coming in to the front of the tent?

I bought extension with tent earlier this year got to say it makes the tent seem larger for the exact reasons you have stated above. the light is not blocked either due to the windows in the extension would highly reccommend spending that bit extra and having the additional space

How dry does it stay under there? Could I leave mucky boots outside in the rain?

we have the sun canopy and find it really valuable, as you can go in and out of the tent easily without the inside of the tent getting wet when its raining (due to the angle of the front door)

You could leave mucky boots under the extension with no problem unless wind is driving the rain into it from the front as the side come right down to the floor if you put your boots at the side of the door I wouldn't expect any probs
