Hi. New to this site but already soaked up lots of great advice. We're looking to buy a new tent and are thinking of the 2 above. My concern with the Robens is that it's 2 separate inners so you couldn't make it into one big leeping area. I mean there's only 2 of us but it would be nice to have more room in the sleeping area as my boyfriend's quite big and all the stuff we leave lying about in it generally. Also I like the Yukon as it has a built in ground sheet that would keep bugs out of the tent. My boyfriend likes the Double Dreamer because it has metal poles which he thinks will bear up better under high winds. (Our tent has fibreglass poles one of which split camping on an exposed campsite, Fidden's Farm on Mull, the first time we used it). Does anybody own either of these tents and could give me some real life experience of using them? Thanks. And by the way does anybody know if either of these tents has mosquito nets on any or all of the doors? I really appreciate this. Thanks.

Have a look here . It seems that you can have just one 4 berth inner tent in the Double Dreamer if you wish.

The Yukon 400 has a mosquito net on the side door but not the front door. It has extra strong fibreglass poles which together with the TBS tension band system should see you through any high winds. However it does get very hot inside during the daytime (this is where the built in groundsheet makes matters worse).

I recently bought a Robens double dreamer and I love it! You can easily make the 2 compartments into a single compartment. It's quite robust, well built, very waterproof, and of course, has mosquito nets. It's also quite well ventilated through the ducts you can open(4). Also, it's easy to erect and pack away, into a smaller and lighter mass than it's competitors. And the compartments are generally bigger too! Oh, another thing, the main poles are alloy.

Thanks all. Think we'll buy the Double Dreamer. Robertt do you mean the dreamer has mosquito nets on all the doors?? Thankyou.

Hi Smallone, sorry for taking so long to reply!

Basically under the main flysheet you have your sleeping cubicle. As mentioned, you can easily remove the wall dividing them. The entire compartment is easily removed, say, if you're packing up in the rain and you want this part to remain dry! This compartment has two doors, or a door for each sleeping compartment. It's double zipped, so you can have the door open with a mosquito net still in place, serving as another 'door'. So it's fully mosquito proof. Also, between the doors are numerous handy pockets which I like.

The remainder of the tent isn't mosquito proof as it doesn't have a sewn in groundsheet. I prefer this though, for ventilation puposes. The edges of the groundsheet turn up within the flysheet, if you wish, to exclude draughts and leaks, and this works quite effectively. So the 3 main doors to the tent don't have a mosquito net. Still, my opinion is that all you need is an effective mosquito proof area to sleep in, which this tent provides.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Robertt. That's given us a lot of info. I guess we'll have to compromise on something and it might be mosquito nets. We were just thinking if we were eating dinner and it was still and midges were abroad it might be nice to have one door open (with midgy net) for ventilation. But really we're being greedy. It's sounds like a super tent and I think you've sold it to us. Cheers!!
