We are planning a camping trip soon to Scotland and as the weather can be so changeable and get very wet very quickly we are wondering whether a 2000HH tent would be up to the beating it could get???
We currently have the 4 man Outwell Oregon Deluxe tent but as there will just be the 2 of us are planning on buying a smaller 2 or 3 man tent - we were thinking of the Vango Sigman 200 or 300 which has a 2000HH.
Any advise would be welcomed.
Thanks
Denise

It depends where you are going. Scotland is a fairly large area, approximately 300 miles from north to south and with vastly differing climatic conditions. Where I live we have today had our third rain shower in the past three weeks, but just about fifty miles west of me they had floods at the weekend.
With regard to the HH rating of the tent material, in my experience leaks are generally through the seams and have little to do with the actual material. Attention to the taping and sealing of the seams is therefore of more importance than the rating of the material.
We have just come back from a week in Kintyre and weather was bad for 4 days and then fab rest of time (however that hol was in a cottage in Saddell), we are thinking of the campsite in Ardgarten (Arygll).
evening. We was camping in Scotland last week, near Dumfries (Hoddom castle, S.W Scotland) It was beautiful when we got there, then as soon as the tent was 'half pitched' it hammered it down, and was pretty much like that for the rest of the week, trowing in thunder and lightning here and there! Saying that though, we had a wonderful time, the tent flooded but hey...I'd rather be sitting in my flooded tent than the office! My OHs Auntie lives there and she phoned today and it was raining, but to be honest pretty much anywhere you go at the moment is likely to be wet. If you decide to go away, dont forget...it's what you make it, try to have fun!

Our tent is only 1500hh and has encountered a few torrential downpours, with no problem at all. Basically what it means - 1500hh = 1.5 metres, 2000hh = 2 metres and so on. This means that 1.5 / 2 meters of rain will sit on your tent before it will leak through. (at least I think that's right) Obviously the waterproofing deteriorates and I would presume a tent with 1500hh would need re-proofing sooner than one with a 3000hh.
