While taking the tent down in a gale,one of the fibre glass pole sections split about 50% of its length. Is it worth repairing with glue and fibreglass tape or will it break at the slightest stress?

best advice is now you are home replace the broken section, a repair is ok to keep you going when you are away but best to replace at first opportunity
Replacement is the best option. Most good camping shops do spare lengths in a range of diameters, so you need to measure and get the right size. You will also need a pole threading kit with wire threader and elastic, also widely available at camping shops.
Thanks for the replies. Think I'll replace it then. I phoned Millets for advice, as you mentioned they said buy a repair kit. Never thought about carrying a spare pole but I will carry one now.
